AskWoody PlusNovember 1, 2024 at 7:40 am in reply to: Face ID not working, stolen device on, significant locations off #2713861Thanks, Myst, Alex5723, appreciate your responses. Somehow, face-id worked after my message, and I immediately turned off stolen device and turned on Significant Locations – alth0ugh after 24 hours or so there is nothing in the history. And Myst, based on your input I did add my reading glasses to the face-id. Thanks.
So for now it’s resolved I guess, but it’s tricky with stolen device turned on if face-id is not working. From what I read if you are in a significant location that will allow the passcode to be used instead. Again, appreciate your assistance.

AskWoody PlusAhem, it may have been version 2.08 that caused the issue…

AskWoody PlusWell, more or less resolved, I’m posting this in case someone else experiences something similar. I realized a few days ago that in May or so I’d updated Start11 to v2.07. So I reinstalled v2.02, and since that time I have had no issues with the taskbar or with Earthdesk wallpaper. Don’t know the issue with Start11 v2.07, but something isn’t agreeing with my computer. When Start11 updates to a newer version I’ll give it a go I’m sure – but keep v2.02 to fall back on.

AskWoody PlusFirst thing I did was completely uninstall Earthdesk, then download the latest and re-install. That didn’t do anything! Will wait for the July updates, the June updates didn’t have any impact. Thanks.

AskWoody PlusTo me it plays like an old piece of software, but thanks for bringing it to my attention.

AskWoody PlusGot it this morning. Will give it a go today and give you some feedback. I’m using Biniware Run right now but it has some quirks that irritate me at times.

AskWoody PlusChuck, the portable link on TrueLaunchBar dl’s a 0 bit zip file. Same for other dl sites like Geeks and Softpedia. Any Idea?

AskWoody PlusI don’t use Word much, certainly not experienced like many of you, but I have always used ctrl-v to paste (ctrl-c to copy, ctrl-x to cut) in Word as well as most other programs. I might be missing something here… : )

AskWoody PlusThat I tried PL1, didn’t change anything. And the new keyboard just this morning put up an upside down ? as a space, although it may have been in conjunction with another key press, I tend to hit double-keys which seems to cause the problem. But I don’t understand why I get a foreign letter or symbol when every windows setting is English (United States) . Must be a setting somewhere that allows keyboard entry but I can’t find it. Thanks again for your help.

AskWoody PlusI’ve had several keyboards, but can’t remember if I had the same problem or not. So I’ve mounted a different keyboard and uninstalled the RedDragon software. Only problem is it only happens occasionally so I’m not sure how lot it will take to have another one, or not have another one…

AskWoody PlusThanks, OldNavyGuy, appreciate the input. Actually, I backed up the system on the 15th, and after that did delete Office 2021 and re-install. The only issue there was, in my mind, a chance the latest update of Office 2021 caused the problem…and when I reinstalled it, using the original Office 2021 .exe file, the first thing it did was go out and download the latest version. In any event, after the reinstall the big white cursor was still there. I’m convinced it’s back to normal now with the smaller white cross and the fill handle checked, I just have no clue what happened.
