I really had high hopes for Distant Desktop.  I thought it might be a great way to support remote users in the small office where I work.  Alas, it failed on two serious counts:

      1. Because it is only available as a portable program, it requires Administrator privileges to run.  Most of our users only have standard user accounts.
      2. Most of our users have dual monitors.  Distant Desktop handles this really badly.  It insists on showing the contents of both monitors.  So if one of my users calls me at home and needs urgent support, and I use Distant Desktop on my laptop to try to help him/her, I’ll see both their screens on my laptop, scaled down to unreadability so that everything fits on my laptop screen.  As far as I can tell, there is no way to change this behavior.  In fact, in general, the person trying to view the remote desktop must have more screen real estate than the remote desktop, or the program is unusable.

I really wanted to love this program, but in the end, it’s just not quite there.
