AskWoody PlusA real pleasure! The “solution” was pretty much implied by PamCaswell and janbphd in earlier posts above, so I can’t claim “exclusive brilliance” in this matter!

AskWoody PlusWoody: Perhaps I did not clarify my statement. I agree entirely with you if you want to try various versions of the program on the instalation disk BEFORE activation. I interpreted the “trick” above by ernieK to be one that would/could be used to install a “more expensive” version than the one originally installed and ativated. (this IS illegal!) My apollogies for any offence implied by my comment. It’s just, I believe, necessary to ensure readers don’t get the wrong idea and think the trick is a work-around to save the cost of more expensive versions of Office. The trick is OK during a pre-activation trial of the product. Not afterwards, UNLESS a new product key is purchased if one opts to keep a different version to the activated one. (This is made clear in Woody’s “Top Story” referred to above).

AskWoody PlusWell done Ted. It’s refreshing to read your positive comments and to find that you are such an optimist. That’s what keeps the world going ’round! However, having said that, criticism has a place: It frequently provokes action that results in improvement.

AskWoody Plusnjl100: Your frustrations fully understood.Hence my comments in an earlier post above regarding opting to use Ubit menu rather than go through the strain of adapting to the ribbon. Ubit menu available to download free at: http://www.ubit.ch/software/ubitmenu-languages

AskWoody PlusJoeP: Yes, I have tried customising the ribbon, which helps a great deal. I suppose I must just force myself to “make the break” and leave 2003 Menus/Ubit menu in the past where (perhaps) they should remain. It’s just been too easy, I suppose, to stay with what’s “comfortable”, particularly in the midst of a busy schedule where producing a document is the goal, not “tweaking” Word. (Although I suppose the time I spend on this site suggests I have a great deal of spare time!–Not true.) Like Russ, I have also survived migration: Originally from Multimate(!) to MS Word 5 and so on up the tree.
(Editing was to correct a number of typos. More haste, less speed!)

AskWoody PlusI still believe the Ubit Menu (now upgraded to also work with office 2010) is the way to go if you were a “comfortable” Office 2003 user. If you are new to Office (unlikely) then I agree with JoeP above: Spend time getting familiar with the ribbon– (see earlier post above for a link to download the Ubit menu). Athough I must say I regularly switch between the Ubit menu and the ribbon when using Word because certain functions are just easier to get to (in my opinion) using the “familiar 2003 interface”

AskWoody PlusGreetings all. Pehaps you could try “whocrashed” sofware to analyse your crash dump? I am told that, while not perfect, it provides a remarkably good chance for identifying the cause(s) of BSODs.
Once downloaded and installed, you run it in windows Safe mode after rebooting immediately after getting a BSOD.You can download the free version (version 2.10) at thye following site: http://www.resplendence.com/downloads

AskWoody PlusGreetings. My random BSODs (see my earlier post above) must have been due to factors other than those affecting you. I noticed that the BSOD seemed to only occur during periods when Microsoft Outlook 2007 was open (?). I took the necessary measures and un-installed and then re-installed Outlook. There have been no further BSODs since then. I have also just found and insatlled a new BIOS version. Still no BSODs (I hope it stays this way!)
