@joep517 and @Alex5723 : An interesting follow-up to this issue: I see in this article:

      https://thewincentral.com/microsoft-a-new-tool-to-reclaim-windows-10-reserved-storage-coming-soon/

“Microsoft may soon introduce a new DISM tool to allow users to reclaim the “reserved storage” on Windows 10. Reserved storage was designed to help Windows 10 feature updates get successfully downloaded and installed without the user having to free up disk space.”

      EDIT:

Currently, the DISM tool to reclaim reserved storage is only available in Windows 10 Version 2004 but Microsoft plans to bring it to earlier  Windows 10 versions too, though a time-frame hasn’t been shared yet.  See here:  https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-it-pro-blog/managing-reserved-storage-in-windows-10-environments/bc-p/1303979/highlight/true#M1579

@joep517  The files are identified as “windows update” (about 6GB),  This has been the approximate size of this category shown in my disk clean-up for the last several months.

I think the explanation is that the space that Windows now reserves exclusively for updates (see #2262658 above) can be read by disk clean-up, but not accessed.  I believe this is now managed only by Storage Sense.  (If you check your OS disk you will see an added partition for this purpose).

    • @PKCano.  You are correct.  In fact, VMWare V 12 is, according to VMWare,  incompatible with 1909 (but I see elsewhere in this forum, that there is a way to “trick” Windows into accepting it).  VMWare 15 and VMWare 15 Player are reported to be compatible with the latest Insider builds.  (But, who knows, maybe not ALL builds!!)

I will try the fix mentioned in my #2110004 above and report back.

    • @PKCano:  I must apologise.  The VM I am referring to is running under VMWare Workstation 15 Player.

I have (just a few moments ago) come across a report that says a VM must be configured with SATA disk and not SCSI in order to run Windows 10 builds beyond 195..   (My VM is configured on SCSI)

I will recreate a new setup on an SATA disk and see if this solves the problem.  I will report back here.

    • Update:  I never did get 19536.1000 to install and boot.

I am now experiencing exactly the same issue with build 19551 (“Fast Ring”), as per my posts #2839585 and  #2039888 above.

Even after performing a completely fresh installation within my Virtual Machine, starting with Version 1909 installation ISO via MCT and then switching to Insider, Fast ring.

      Really weird!!!

    • @PKCano:  Yes, I am still and Insider.  Having seen that others are experiencing the same or very similar issue, (as per the link in my OP above),  I’ll stay rolled back to 1909 and wait for the next update.  (Hopefully, I will be able to bypass the present one …)

Several users have the same, or similar issue (as per the link provided in my OP above).

I think I’ll wait for the next update and see if I can bypass this one. Meanwhile I have rolled back to 1909.

    • Windows 10 Insider Preview 19536.1000 (rs_prerelease) keeps failing to install on my system (In a Virtual Machine). When asked to “Restart” the system opens and offers me the opportunity to “repair” or “Restore” my PC; or to restart.

The first option is unsuccessful; The second option (Restart) results in the system rolling back to the previous Version.
On the Answers.Microsoft.com page, Here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/all/windows-10-insider-preview-195361000-rsprerelease/aca14f66-0637-4f31-9ab7-13ddf417c996 , 17 users have indicated they have the same/similar issue:
To quote the first report: “Alright. So, I’m an insider and I’m trying to upgrade from 19041.1 to 19536.1000. The computer downloads the update, then it goes to install it. It goes through the initial restart and hits 100%. Then it restarts and only makes it to about 25%. Then the computer restarts two or three more times and then says it’s undoing changes made to the computer.”
Anyone here had the same/similar issue?

    • An update to this issue with a simple solution:

“Shut down VMWare Workstation then head over to C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation and scroll down to vmware.exe

Rename the program, a single character will do. vmware1.exe vmwareA.exe – whatever you like. Then update any shortcuts to the program. Right-click on the renamed file and choose Pin to Start. Restart Workstation from the renamed .EXE and it works normally again.”

@joep517  Yes, I have tried that, but it makes no difference.  I honestly thought the problem was due to changing from an MSI Intel Mobo to an AMD one.  But as stated in my original post, MSI are unable to recreate the issue.  (I have tried exactly the same settings that worked with the MSI Intel Mobo in the new MSI AMD Mobo, but without success)

Annoying, since I now cannot run my Acronis Backups by letting Acronis wake the system from sleep to do them while I am still sleeping 🙂 !

I am still using Money V12.0, (Money 2004 Standard) and have never had any issues with it in all these years.  I am able to download statements directly from my South African bank in .OFX format.  Investments/Unit trusts have to be updated manually, but it is really not a hassle for me.
