    • You went to dodgy site xyz to install software that was not available in the Chrome store and are surprised that it does things you didn’t expect? Serious FOMO problem there methinks.

I’ve not seen advice to upgrade O2019. Have you seen any?

Upgrading to W11 is still a “wait and see” issue for me. We do not yet know definitively how much it will cost to keep W10 patched. This is particularly important for older machines that may not be W11 compatible.
Have you checked that yours is? I used WhyNotWin11 to test my W10 box.

I would do the W11 upgrade first and test that everything behaves as you expect – after making a backup image or two first.
When the upgrade has settled, then upgrade to O2024.
Doing it this way means any issues will be easy to identify.

    • Not sure I see the relevance of humanoid robots. Seems like a waste of processing power balancing a biped, when you could make ones that actually do things we need/want.

How much affect this has on prices will depend on the list of certified drives. Hopefully it will be comprehensive.

That is the Windows recovery environment patch. We know it’s rubbish – I’d hide it.

    • Does Ctrl Alt Del do anything?

Is the power light on all the time in normal use? If so, this suggests that the PC has returned from sleep but not woken up the monitor – I have a laptop that does this.

Try changing “what the power button does” to hibernate and then you can press it to get back to a power off state without losing everything.

Also check for an updated graphics driver.

Are you running update every day or is it stuck in an installation loop?

      Try uninstalling it and rebooting.

It will be mentioned here – keep an eye on the home page.

    • in reply to: Windows 11 won’t boot #2764428

I just booted up Windows 11 ISO using a Ventoy USB.  I selected “Boot in normal mode”

Ventoy uses a different system and is not a good test of your machine.
Stick to booting from the internal hard disk.

      Always backup.

Where you backup is up to you.

Where, how many machines, W10/11, Home/Pro?

I would not do anything until Susan gives us the lowdown on the MS offering. Then we can make an informed choice.

    • in reply to: Windows 11 won’t boot #2764058

Because my original situation was that Windows may be corrupt I don’t know but want to try making an image of it and re-install it

You want to use the MR “fix boot” option, nothing else.
This will probably break the dual boot, but we can work through that once you have Windows booting.

You should be right without the USB driver – the boot USB works.
Plug an external USB stick / disk and see if MR can find it.

      cheers, Paul
