      I am a fan of auto patch and re-boot, which I generally schedule for 5am – after the backups and not down too long if I need to fix it when I get in in the morning. I also use WSUS – it ain’t perfect but it does work most of the time.

      Why did you lose mail because of a service failure? Mail servers retry delivery.
      Was it down for several days? If so you need to monitor Exchange for problems – should do it anyway.

      She’s gone to god I’m afraid.
      You may be able to resurrect her for a little while by removing and re-installing everything that has a connector – power, memory, drives etc. This will clean the contacts and may give you some respite.
