AskWoody PlusThanks. Well, that actually worked, based on the link you sent. They had me do that (add the OAth) for my accounts quite a while ago, which I did and everything worked for a long time. Then it stopped. So, Thank You!

AskWoody PlusYes, it does. Thank you! I’ve followed your advice to advance my updates till the 3rd week or so each month, and I guess that has done the job. I appreciate your DEFCON reminders each month to set that delay again, because Mr Windows in the Home version won’t.
Now I just hope he doesn’t force Win 11 on me. I also posted about that earlier today and was directed to another post where you commented. I’m always a little nervous using regedit, so haven’t done that tweak yet. Again, thanks for all of your contributions to Ask Woody.

AskWoody PlusThank you! I guess I’m really out of my depth here as a home user. When Susan warns me to make sure I have a certain update, I look for that number in my update list and would never have known about the MSRC portal, etc, etc, and trying to find a correspondency.
Maybe we need a DEFCON for the less-educated! Thank you again for your help.

AskWoody PlusFebruary 3, 2022 at 9:07 am in reply to: Will Win Update install Win11 if I don’t request it? #2423069Yes, it is. Thanks Paul!
I figured it had been asked, but there are so many posts under Win 11, I couldn’t easily find it.

AskWoody PlusI checked some online reviews of that site and decided not to take the risk.
Our MicroCenter has Win10 Pro computers, but not with the other specs I want, so may just get a Home version and live with it. My computer use is limited to Office apps, Quicken, email and web pretty much. I do daily backups with Backup Maker and weekly image with True Image.
Thanks much for your comment as it dovetails with the info I discovered.

AskWoody PlusI bought the Win7 Pro PC direct from Dell, so I guess that would be a “retail key”. Thanks for the link to zdnet – I had that, but wondered if it still “worked” or if MS had stopped it.
