Disclaimer: I have been unable to personally test this issue, so the best I can do it rely upon what others have written.

Microsoft employee netwarrior20 has commented that the registry keys that KB4099950 deletes (or renames) can be recreated after running KB4099950 and rebooting. Thus, perhaps some of those registry keys were present when you installed KB4088878.

I believe the .exe was added to the Catalog when the exe became bundled with the update in Windows Update.

KB 4073578 can be considered a replacement for KB 4056897. There should be no need to install both.

The smart card issue was once documented by Microsoft as an issue in a Windows security-only update, but later removed.

What also happens is the update evaluates whether it is installed and installable on the given system.

I’m not surprised by this because the method that WUMT Wrapper Script uses stops all access (even read access) to those files.

I would not expect use of the Image File Execution Options debugger registry method to have issues such as this.

pci.sys is a file that has received some attention here in the past few months due to two networking issues introduced in the March 2018 Windows 7 updates. If you follow Woody’s directions though, you shouldn’t need to concern yourself with it.

KB4099950 does not update pci.sys.

I recommend not rebooting in between installing these updates, so that “bad” files that have been replaced by fixed files in later updates do not ever become active.

Consider in step 1 replacing KB 4056897 with KB 4073578.

The Windows 7 updates that I didn’t install are KB2952664, KB3021917, and KB971033.
