AskWoody LoungerI just synced our WSUS server again, and Microsoft has pulled KB4601392, which is the servicing stack for Server 2016. That’s likely the culprit.

AskWoody LoungerI can confirm that my WSUS server just got a number of “preview of quality rollup” updates, as well as new .NET cumulative updates for various windows versions. We did not get the Internet Explorer patch in this batch of updates.

AskWoody LoungerYes, I confirm the same on one of our 2008R2 servers with the security only patch from this month.

AskWoody LoungerDay two, and our WSUS server still hasn’t pulled down this patch. Only the 1803 servicing stack update was made available so far. Very strange!

AskWoody LoungerFirefox has a bug with 1803 that is fixed with the 59.0.3 release that came out a couple of days ago. Release notes are here:

AskWoody LoungerOK, this is frustrating. I think their WSUS detection is botched. I’ve approved KB4100480 for Win7 x64 and Server 2008R2. It’s definitely been downloaded. Three test Win 7 systems and a 2008R2 server check for updates and find zero. But if I download KB4100480 from the catalog and run the .msu file manually, they install.
So, if someone wants to protect their Windows 7 clients, the usual WSUS method provides no help. Hopefully they will reissue with fixed detection soon.

AskWoody LoungerThe delta updates KB4041676 and KB40491 for Windows 10 version 1607 and 1703 as well as Windows Server 2016 were all expired some time after the initial release to WSUS. So it looks like it was a mistake that Microsoft corrected.

AskWoody LoungerFor the first time, I’m seeing Delta Updates for Win 10 1607 and 1703 along with the regular Cumulative Updates. This is on our WSUS server. I thought the deltas were only for non-WSUS environments. Supposedly there are known problems if you try to install both regular and delta. I’ve declined the deltas, but I wonder what’s going on.

Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. |
