      Thanks all for thinking about this.

      MB=Asus Prime x299 Deluxe II (You won’t find anything on Asus Support Downloads)

      CPU=Intel i9 x9900

      I suppose that if I absolutely knew what these “unknown devices” were, then maybe I could just live without them and ignore the Device Manager completely.

      The irritating thing, is that I can’t find either of these drivers to download and save.  I talked with support at Intel and they said they don’t have it, yet there are references to it all over the web.  Asus doesn’t know what’s going on, so I’m trying to work my way up through tech support there.

      Integrated on the MB is a Intel (Texas Instrument based) controller:  Hardware ID 3515 that has to do with USB Type C power.  So, that is probably what one of the drivers is for.

      The other driver, 3510 might be something to do with Intel’s Turbo Boost.  Not sure.  Check the image below for the Hardware ID’s

      @saltrow

      Good link, but all the Intel links are dead.  In fact, that is the driver I need.

      With the best of my ability, I read through the post and decided to try the RetiredGeek method near the bottom.  What was discussed, but not explained is how you know what saved driver (inf file I assume) is for what ?   I’ll have to experiment.

      Of course, if I don’t have the drivers I need, then it doesn’t do me much good to save them…..especially since I already have 90% of them.

      Question:  When hooked to the internet and MS Windows 10 (scrapes) downloads drivers, are these stored somewhere on my local drive….even temporarily and could I identify them ?

      Thanks for the suggestions.   Any ideas are welcome.  I was reading that this issue came up only after 1803, but that may be “fake news”.

      @Zig

      Good call, but yes I tried that.  I also tried different USB ports.

      @James

      Another logical step.  I tried that too.  On Android there is a notification that you can sweep down from the top that allows you to select the USB options.  Also, you can get into the so-called developer mode and select (force) MTP.

      It’s funny how with two different machines (Lenovo Laptop and Asus Motherboard based) using the exact same OS that the problem is only on the laptop.   Hardware ?  Driver ?

      Great discussion and lots of information, I’m glad I asked.  Thank you.

      What would be real interesting would be to hear what Woody or Susan are doing ??

      @Vincenzo

      I agree with your thought for the most part.

      So you’re saying that you didn’t have any issues with say the:  Start Menu, Audio or WiFi cards ?  If so, that’s comforting, although my system fits the specs for at least two of the three (one of those supposedly patched).

      Thanks for the comment.

      As for backup, you reminded me about another post I have to make, so look for it.

      Thanks PKCano for your suggestion.

      @EP
      :  I have the ISO for 1809 so I extracted the files and checked the information for one of the setup files and it was 10.0.17763.1.

      So, from what you said, that leaves me with a pretty worthless version, Right ?

      Anyway, I suppose it’s next to impossible to get the version of 1809 V2 that you are talking about unless you or someone else here knows of a safe site to download it from.

      Well to answer my own question:  Yes, some processors like the Cascade Lake series have some protection.  The above link pretty well explains it.

      Thanks for the reply (and to whoever fixed my post).

      It sounds like I should wait for a complete patch (patched patch)

      You know, I have no idea if I have the earlier protections.   Is there an easy way to query for that?   And, no I’m not using IE11.

      Image shows all updates.  Notice that the last security update was the rollup on 6/4.  Anything after that was strictly for MS Security Essentials.

    • Thanks for the reply and tips Kirsty.  Yes, I’ll wait to see what is recommended here.

      Thanks a bunch for the help and wisdom.  Gosh, I don’t how you keep up with all this stuff that MS throws at us.

      I will ask about the .NET updates in a separate post in the Windows “General” section.

      Below is the screen grab from WU after I followed your advice.   A couple of things remain:

      1.  What is your advice on the 2018-01 KB4056894 Security Monthly Quality Rollup ?   In your post above you have something like it.  But I want to make sure.

      2.  Also, I looked in installed updates and couldn’t find any instance of KB2952664, so either I don’t have it or………I can’t find it.   Is there another way to check for it ?

      Installed the 64 bit version of KB4054518 rollup.  I can always tell that one, since it slows down my machine as it includes the MS Spectre patch (I think).

      Here’s what WU is offering me now:

      Optional

      See if this works.  Edit:  Oh, you see that one dated 4/2/2018.  Well that’s the one that if I remove it, it just reappears (as I indicated on my first post above).
