AskWoody PlusThank you for your input Clive. I agree with your premise but it unnecessarily complicates an image restore to a new or formatted drive, with one partition it is straight forward. I am not sufficiently knowledgeable to to risk incorporating the reserved partition back into the ‘C’ partition but that is my fervent desire. Perhaps when my machine needs a format and reload I shall get a techie to load Windows as one partition, until then I shall continue with the present setup as it is running perfectly (Let sleeping dogs lie)

AskWoody PlusThank you CLiNT, In my file manager drive ‘H’ contents are invisible. In Disk Management the partition is 349MB with 242MB used but I cannot ascertain the contents.

AskWoody PlusThank you Look but that tutorial is for Win 7.
-

AskWoody PlusThank you for that. The option to turn it back on was greyed out so the ReImage techie had another remote session to turn it back on. All seems to be working OK.

AskWoody PlusThe Reimage techie did get the printer to print Notepad documents but at what cost I ask myself, he disabled so many startups and fiddled with something called DEP that I have no idea what actually caused the problem, probably best to live in ignorance and worry about the world financial situation instead.

AskWoody PlusAlmost, I tried to print a ReImage report, when it failed I tried to print a Notepad doc, when that failed I printed a Word doc to confirm the printer was working. I have the ReImage tech support fellow remotely accessing my machine tomorrow, I shall report if he manages to solve it. If not I might try Fred Langa’s ‘Win7’s no-reformat, nondestructive reinstall’

AskWoody PlusThank you for your reply. Standard Notepad document. I seldom print Notepad documents but as I had a problem printing a ReImage file I started experimenting. I brought back an image of my ‘C’ drive before I installed ReImage and tried again, same problem. Yes, I can print a Word 2007 document immediately after the failure to print the Notepad document without logging off or rebooting, I wonder if a Windows Update has upset the apple cart. I have tried cleaning the Registry with JV16 and updating printer drivers, all to no avail. Error message attached.

AskWoody PlusInteresting, the PST file has stayed at 219mb for 2 days, perhaps Outlook does preallocate space and the natural size for my data is 219mb. I have been compacting back to approx’ 150mb every day and as I have plenty of HDD space I think I will just let it find its natural level.
Thank you all for your input.

AskWoody PlusHDD space not a problem but PST has expanded to 219mb this morning.

AskWoody PlusAll my junk mail is caught by MailWasher and deleted on the server and I compact the PST twice a day.

AskWoody PlusFound a workaround for this. I used a keyboard remapper and and remapped the Shift key to Shift and it works, don’t ask me why.

AskWoody PlusI very much appreciate the effort all you gentleman have made to assist me. Last night I discovered a years old copy of the driver and re-installed it and then deleted from Devices & Printers, Hey Presto, it’s gone and doesn’t return after a reboot. All your comments were interesting and informative but especially the link to ‘Remove old drivers after upgrading to new hardware’ from Clint. Thank you Clint, I have printed that article for future reference. Thank you all again and G’Day from Western Australia, although with a socialist, union, female lawyer as Prime Minister I not sure how many more good days we shall be experiencing!

AskWoody PlusFolder Size says 85778KB. Very hard to check folder sizes as I have 1500+ folders and the box they open in has no facility to print them also the box cannot be expanded to take screen shots. Is 85778KB equal to 85.7MB? If so why is my PST 132MB in size? I also use Personal Folders Backup, Lookeen and Google Desktop Search.
