    • I have discovered that my external USB 3.0 enclosure is only detected when it is plugged in to a USB 2.0 port. Very odd.

    • in reply to: Copy folder from SSD to HDD fails #1454897

Thank you for your replies. Yes, the SSD is a 250GB disc. I did search that error message but the general advice was to run error checking on both discs, which I did with no errors found. I then deleted the 22.4gb folder from the target disc and tried again and then it copied perfectly, very strange.

Thank you F.U.N. Downtown. I think it is a one off but I do not like WMC and have ordered a DNTV Dual Hybrid (7164) PCIe which comes with its own recording software. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

I have only used this card on my current PC which was delivered with Win 8 and I upgraded it to 8.1. Worked perfectly until the last recording. I initiate the recording by TV-Recorded TV-Add Recording-Channel & Time, make my choices and then hit Record. Both HDD’s are NTFS.

Hello Ken, I also have used it for many years but I fear it is dying. I tried to pay my yearly subscription last week but the dialogue box that opened said it couldn’t connect. This week it does connect but I am reluctant to pay a yearly subscription for a programme that is on life support. Peter

Thank you John-O. I do have a CD copy of Kaspersky but I am reluctant to install it as I already run Norton 360. Is it possible to make a rescue CD without installing first?

    • in reply to: Cannot delete ‘Windows.old’ in Windows 8.1 #1422679

Success at last. After trying everything I ran a disc check on my SSD C: boot drive and I was able to delete Windows.oldwindowsprefetch. Not sure why this worked. Thank you all for the interest you have shown.

Have done that many times, says ‘An unexpected error is keeping you from deleting this folder. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x80070091: The directory is not empty.’ I checked that error and cannot find a fix applicable to Windows 8.1 that works.

Thank you for your replies. I followed them all but no joy. I even restored a pre 8.1 image upgraded again and did a system file cleanup, like the first time all the files were deleted but the three empty nested folders Windows.oldWindowsPrefetch remain. I tried Puppy Linux setup but could not get it to work, it had some problem on my machine. What I need is a boot disc with a file manager included. Thank you all.

Yes I have but it was a pertinent question to ask. Thank you.

    • Thank you. But I have just discovered File History only backs up to external drives, although I have those I wish it to point to an internal drive. Interestingly when I switched File History back on it said it couldn’t connect to my internal or external drives. Said I had to reconnect.

    • I have tried that but I cannot choose the folders that I wish. I do not use libraries I prefer the old fashioned way of locating my files.

    • in reply to: Do I need the reserved ‘H’ partition? #1382100

When I restored recently with True Image I only restored the ‘C’ partition ( I unchecked the ‘H’ partition)and it all worked perfectly but that was not to a new or formatted disc. When restoring to a new or formatted disc my advice has been to restore the reserved partition first and then the ‘C’ partition. I wonder why True Image always advises to image the ‘H’ partition when it is not a needed restore, maybe when you have one copy of the reserved partition that is sufficient for any future restore?
