AskWoody_MVPActually, you have Outlook on the web, the new Outlook for Windows, Outlook Mobile, Outlook.com, and the classic Outlook desktop program that comes with Microsoft 365/Office 365.

AskWoody_MVPI agree. As I said in the article, I’m not a fan of the new Outlook app. I think it was a bad move on Microsoft’s part to get rid of the Mail and Calendar apps and replace them with this new one. And how many apps are now named Outlook? Microsoft sometimes seems like a chicken running around with its head cut off.

AskWoody_MVPGood question. Yes, you can switch from a Microsoft account to a local account without losing any apps or settings that aren’t tied to your MS account. I explained how to do that in this article – https://www.askwoody.com/2023/how-to-set-up-a-local-account-in-any-edition-of-windows-11/

AskWoody_MVPGood suggestion. I’ve used Rufus in the past to install Win 11, and it is a good way to get past some of Microsoft’s barriers.

AskWoody_MVPApple has a new version of iCloud for Windows that is supposed to be a big improvement over the older version. And it offers Outlook calendar and contact syncing. I haven’t actually tried the syncing yet, but you may want to give it a shot – https://support.apple.com/en-us/103232

AskWoody_MVPI ran into the same problem. What I ultimately did was use a program called Rufus to create a Windows 11 ssH2 installation on USB. Rufus is a free utility that creates a bootable USB with an OS – https://rufus.ie/en/
I downloaded the 22H2 ISO file from Microsoft. I ran Rufus. After the initial setup screen, there’s a second screen that lets you remove the requirement for Secure Boot, TMP 2.0, etc. After the USB is created, I just run the ISO file from there to update Win 11 to 22H2. Just make sure you back up all your personal files before you update. But it worked for me.

AskWoody_MVPYep, I subscribe to the Criterion Channel as well. Aside from Netflix DVD, I get most of my classic movie fix from them. And same with TCM. I’d subscribe to TCM if it were a separate and inexpensive streaming service on its own but not when it’s bundled with dozens of other cable channels. I will sometimes watch a classic film on Amazon Prime Video, but more often than not you have to pay a rental fee on top of your Prime subscription.

AskWoody_MVPDisappointed to hear this. I’m a huge classic, old-time film buff, and many of the movies I want to catch are not available through streaming but have been available through Netflix DVD.

AskWoody_MVPI double-checked as well, and the settings are the way I described them on my end. I wonder if you’re running an older version of Chrome. The latest version is 112.

AskWoody_MVPYep, good suggestions. I’ve used Click and Clean and Ghostery, and they both definitely ease the process of cleaning up and managing cookies and other data.

AskWoody_MVPGreat, so glad you liked the article. There’s no way that I’m aware of to display the names of photos in the app. You can hover your mouse cursor over a photo, and the name pops up. But that’s the only option I’ve seen.

AskWoody_MVPThanks. Glad you found the article helpful. There’s no direct way to link to Google Photos online from the Windows Photos app. There are a couple of workarounds but they all require more of a manual process where you’d have to sync and download the photos to a folder on your PC and then link to it from the Photos app. I tried it but it’s pretty kludgy.

AskWoody_MVPThe advantage with a desktop email client is that you can use it when you’re offline. I’ll often use my laptop on long car trips (sitting in the passenger side, of course). And it’s handy to be able to review and access my existing emails as well as write new messages and then sync everything once I’m back online.
