First, like all the others, thanks for the great information that has been put up over the years.

My preferred format is a spreadsheet with one sheet per OS rather than one file per patch month. Excel is more flexible so I can change column widths. I can also search per column rather than whole pdf especially for older KB patches.

One comment: Please turn on WrapText for Columns E & F (Special Notes and Description). The Office spreadsheet seems to be different.

in Chrome, –> settings (3 dot icon) –> Advanced –> Privacy and security –> Site settings –> Flash

You can add the site however Flash is being removed from Chrome: https://www.askwoody.com/2019/patch-lady-two-items-of-note-in-chrome/

      Windows 7 has a new KB4493132 2019-07 out. Previous version I saw was 2019-04

    • I also ran WUShowHide and saw it.

Please also see post #1901247 below.

    • My experience is you need to Metered off to download automatic updates then Meter on to stop it.

    • With no blocking and Metered Off, the Windows Updates downloaded including Windows Defender / Security Intelligence Updates.

From the picture Windows Defender is AntiMalware Service.

I still think that blocking Windows Defender is helping to stop Windows Update.

KB4023057 did not get blocked, WUShowHide only blocked SilverLight and nothing else.

I can’t uninstall KB4023057. I have two choices: System Restore to go back or move forward to 1809. My preferred choice is 1803 and moving to 1809 in November.

I think I have seen somewhere how WUShowHide may not block going forward and I saw how it does not block some updates. Be forewarned.

It may also be a good idea to take a screenshot of all the patches that available for hiding (WUShowHide), to see what you need to manually download.

I do install the Windows Defender definitions but not every day. It even works from a Standard User privilege. [For me, anti-virus has not caught / stopped anything for a decade however I try to be very careful. You should follow PKCano’s advice and update all the time. Only update occasional, if you feel you have other defensive measures to ensure you will not get compromised so YMMV.]

The Windows Updates I was not sure about, is Security Intelligence Updates. Thanks

    • 1803 Home 32-bit

This PC has tried Windows Update recently but Metered Connection is on so it does not do it and only gives me a notification that the Metered Connection is on.

No 1903 Upgrade is showing using WUShowHide. I only get 1803 updates plus KB4023057. Metered Connection on.

I hide KB4023057, SilverLight and a Windows Defender update (because I was not sure what the Defender update was).

I use “Windows 10 Firewall Control” to block a Windows Defender. In this case I unblocked Windows Defender because I wanted to update Defender. This part I may have wrong; I may be blocking some other Microsoft program. I will snip a picture of the blocking and post. I am not on Windows 10 right now.

      I turned Metered Connection off.
Update and Security -> and the updates started downloading but KB4023057 was going to download. No way!. I turned Metered Connection back on which stops everything.

I suspect the blocking of Windows Defender / Microsoft program may be helping me.

    • For those who are worried, run wushowhide to see if it wants to upgrade and check hide for 1903. Here is hoping it still works.

    • in reply to: July updates come with a few warts #1895355

This is a request to have KB4474419 add to the Windows 7 / Server 2008 updates. It is already in the Server 2008 SP2 section / worksheet for July 15.

    • The rating for the May Windows 7 patch was: “Better to install than to wait” by Woody. Today:

      https://www.askwoody.com/2019/where-we-stand-with-the-may-2019-windows-patches/

      https://www.computerworld.com/article/3216425/microsoft-patch-alert-patching-whack-a-mole-continues.html

      Wormable BlueKeep hasn’t been exploited.

Looking at the Patch List today, it says it is safe to install the Windows 7 Update.

KB 4505064 still has not been updated as above.

    • Having problems on Windows 10 1709 Home.

My new process is applied with the metered connection indicated to be on.

Wait until you are comfortable with the information from Woody and Susan Bradley before and downloading and applying.

go to the Update Catalog catalog.update.microsoft.com and look for all the relevant updates for the month eg. 2018-12 . Manually download and install .

Sorry @pkcano your process is only working for Windows 10 1709 Pro.

    • No joy for Windows 10 – 1709 Home. Last time it worked after doing a PC Reset. The September 9 posting worked well on Windows 10 – 1709 Pro if you Paused off before the first WUShowHide.

    • Not exactly on topic but System Restore seems to have a second location on Windows 10: Settings, Update & Security, Recovery, Advanced Startup – Restart Now, Troubleshoot, Advanced Options, System Restore

    • Adding a little to the above process:

+ Boot computer with metered connections on.
      + Pause off (if applicable)
+ Immediately run wushowhide. (Advanced\uncheck auto fix)
+ Hide KB 4023057 (and whatever other updates you do not want).
+ Open Services [Administrative Tools, Services] – highlight Windows Update Service, Disable, Apply, Stop the service (upper left)
+ Restart the computer (not shutdown/bootup) [eg. command line: shutdown -r ]
+ Open Services – highlight Windows Update Service, set to Manual, Apply, DO NOT start the service. Close Services.
+ Immediately run wushowhide and verify the update(s) are hidden.
+ Now you should be able to open Settings\Updates and Security and update without getting the hidden updates. Once you see that only the ones you want are there, turn off Metered connections and allow download.
+ Reset connections to Metered BEFORE the Restart. [Pause on, Metered on]

It works if you do not mind the PC Reset. It works on 1709 Home and Pro. KB4023057 is a hidden update. Thanks for the process.
