    • Until reading about the Microsoft Safety Scanner Tool here, I was not aware of it. It took about 51 minutes to check everything on my system and found no issues. Now that I’m aware of it, I will be using it as a periodic double check with Windows Security.

I know that some people like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, but my own experience with it has not left me impressed with it’s usefulness. When I have used it in the past to try and clean infected systems, I found that it did a not so great job of cleaning those systems and having to use other software to finish the job. Not trying to start a war, just stating my experience with it.

In my working days, I found Kaspersky to work best on infected systems. I find the US government position on Kaspersky to be without merit, but I can see how that might persuade some to pass it by – I understand.

Again, thanks to Susan, I have discovered a new tool to back up Windows Security. Thanks.

When does it reboot? Under load or not. PC been on a long time on not? Video card changed, or any other hardware changes? Power supply name and rating?

If there have been no hardware changes, it might be heat related. I would blow out the interior with canned air – all case fans, video card, cpu cooler, power supply. After making sure all fans are working, I would go into the motherboard bios and make sure that all fans are set to turbo or full. If this does not resolve the problem, I doubt that it is heat related.

If not heat related, I would suspect the power supply. I have seen what you describe with one of my own systems and the cause was a faulty power supply. But before spending any money, I would try the above first.

      Woody,

My wife and I live in Malaysia and when I was having problems logging in to AskWoody, you and your associates solved my problem.  You said at the time how much you loved Thailand.  I would love to invite you and your family for a visit but things are much worse here than in Thailand.  I think that the pandemic is on its third wave now, and things are rather ugly with the Klang valley being under an enhanced movement control order.

We wish you and your family all the best and hope that retirement is everything that you dreamed of.

      Steve and Ann,  Klang, Malaysia
