      Thanks for this Will! I am of the same mind as you, but with fewer software needs.

      I bought my last Quicken in 2016 (Deluxe). I have been able to move it to newer computers and reinstall it, with some fancy work-arounds. I have it on at least two computers just in case.

      It works fine on W11. I do not use any of the online stuff, basically a fancy checkbook with reports. I also looked at GnuCash, but found it too complex for my basic needs. I looked at MoneyDance and that may be my next experiment, but as long as Quicken 2016 keeps on working, I’ll keep using it.

      I found some excellent instructions for reinstalling Quicken 2016 on their forums, and I have kept all the updates needed to get to an up-to-date Quicken 2016 Deluxe. At one point, the update failed to install, and I had to create a new user in Windows that was only one word (!) and install the update from there. After that all I had to do was finish updating and import my data file and I was good to go. A royal pain, but it works. Not planning any changes going forward.

      I really dislike any subscription model; I avoid them like the plague.

    • in reply to: 22H2 – Windows 10 edition #2489503

      Susan;

      I have almost the same configuration as Skyking; a 7040 with a 6th generation i5, 16 gig RAM, 512 gig  NVMe SSD. I also loaded W11 Pro 22H1 using Rufus to remove the blocks. I have had no issues with updates, but have not been offered 22H2, so I went ahead and made a 22H2 usb using the .iso and Rufus again, and did a upgrade install to 22H2. So far I have had no issues at all with the upgrade. I also found a way to get the File Explorer tabs feature installed and like it as well.

      I hope this helps you Susan.

      As with most things Windows, a few days after I originally posted this topic, Windows magically offered the 21H1 update again, ran it and completed the update with no issues.

      Thanks for the brute force suggestion, but for this minor update, it would have been too much trouble to bother.

      Anyway, all is well with both of the Dells involved.

      Hi Susan;

      No, there is nothing blocking downloads as far as I can tell.

      I’ll double check and try again.

    • in reply to: I am up and Running! Version 1909 #2007316

      I found that 1909 also installed quickly and without issues on a number of laptops and desktops in my home. One interesting thing was before I was offered 1909, there was a very large cumulative update for 1903 that took a long time to install; maybe a preparation for 1909? The update was KB4524570. No issues with it, just took a while to install, After reboot, Ver. 1909 was offered.

      Another good source for all sorts of cables and connectors is My Cable Mart (mycablemart.com). I have purchased many audio and video cables from them and they are of high quality and very reasonable prices.
      I am not connected with the company except as a satisfied customer

    • in reply to: Manage Windows faster with Run commands #1453922

      For users of the much more common Win 8.1, there is a registry hack that will do the same thing as the gpedit checkbox that we don’t have. Google “disable lock screen in windows 8.1” and you will find it.

    • in reply to: Manage Windows faster with Run commands #1453919

      How can the users of regular win8.1 do this? I see this hint over and over online and each time, no mention is made of the lack of gpedit in the regular win8.1.
      Doesn’t anyone do their research and check these hints before publishing them?
