AskWoody PlusGreetings:
Apart from the MS offerings for October I have also been offered “Intel Corporation – System – 2.25.100.3”, which on reference to Intel opens the “Intel® Software Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX) Driver and Data Center Attestation Primitives (Intel® SGX DCAP)” page.
Since I don’t have a clue about this reference, I’m seeking guidance on whether or not it’s perfectly safe to install.
Cheers,
John.

AskWoody PlusMay 29, 2024 at 6:05 am in reply to: 6000018 – Links to enablement packages to install 23H2 easily #2676131Since I use InControl, is it enough for me to simply reset it to Win11 23H2 before running the .msu enablement package? Or should I just disable it fully before running the .msu, then set it to 23H2?
Thanks,
John. -

AskWoody PlusSeptember 28, 2023 at 1:10 am in reply to: Strange problem after upgrade from Win10Pro 22H2 to Win11Pro 22H2 #2590162Thanks, but I’m reluctant to install the two missing updates either via “check for updates” or the Windows Catalog, as they are on record as having caused many users substantial problems. I would only do so if it seemed no one could think of any other way to address my irritating “pop-on, pop-off” problem. But it does seem as though Microsoft has updated KB5030219 and KB5031217, so maybe I’ll have to go down that path.
The really annoying part is that the upgrade from Win10 to Win11 is working totally fine apart from that.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 26, 2023 at 7:58 pm in reply to: Strange problem after upgrade from Win10Pro 22H2 to Win11Pro 22H2 #2589872Could my problem be associated with the fact that, as this Belarc check shows, two updates that have caused significant problems have NOT been installed on my machine?

Might have to read it for yourself. Cheers

AskWoody PlusOctober 1, 2022 at 5:31 am in reply to: Seeking opinions: Is now the time to switch from Win10Pro to Win11Pro? #2484394I’m a bit more than “just want it to work”, as my main gig these days is publishing very high-res art photos and editing associated texts. The image files routinely come in at 500MB+, up to 1GB or so, which is why I use a Gigabyte Aero 15″ OLED laptop, full load of 64GB RAM, 10th Gen CPUs etc… so the OS needs to be solid and robust. Seems to me I’ll hang with Win10 for the moment, maybe wait to switch when I’ve got a couple of months between projects early next year. Thanks Susan and everyone for the guidance, can’t beat the AskWoody team & engaged users! Cheers.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 30, 2022 at 12:13 pm in reply to: Seeking opinions: Is now the time to switch from Win10Pro to Win11Pro? #2484205Hm… I sort of hoped an image backup would obviate the need for a separate data backup, but gathering all the app installation files — even if they pretty much all still exist in my Downloads folder — makes sense, particularly as the original install file for, say, Macrium Reflect is now many Macrium updates old.

AskWoody PlusPerhaps some Mozilla brain can tell us why there is this disparity between my desktop 86.0.1 and your ESR 78.8.0 functionality. Thanks for your advice.

AskWoody PlusOK, at last I feel like I’m on the right track, thanks. I half-thought those Win10 system settings might not apply to non-MS apps, but as the new Edge is a hybrid MS-Chromium beast I wasn’t sure.
And I checked Firefox’s Options but obviously did not see any obvious way of getting to such granular settings, so yes thanks, I’d really appreciate guidance on that.
As for a website guaranteed to generate the error response, smh.com.au is the only one I’ve recorded at this point. I’ll gather more as I hit them.
In the meantime, I’ll clear that SSL box! Cheers.

That was my issue too, so thanks — I feel slightly less dumberer

AskWoody PlusMarch 14, 2021 at 9:37 pm in reply to: MS-DEFCON 1 – Blue screens of death triggered by patches #2350480Thanks, but I was specifically looking for the list of updates scheduled for installation, so I could block any I chose, rather than post-installation.

Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. |
