AskWoody LoungerAccording to Crowdstrike, more than 50% of ransomware attacks in 2019 were done without the use of malware – in other words, they were direct attacks conducted by humans.
For your technique to work, you’d have to somehow avoid an attack by a human adversary.

AskWoody LoungerWe’re on the same page. 🙂
The new SR form does remind me of the Extra Simplified 1040:

AskWoody LoungerThe form used doesn’t determine your standard deduction. You can take your full (over 65) standard deduction using a standard 1040. (The form has only the usual standard deductions listed in the left margin, but the instructions specify that you can plug in the amount from the worksheet which includes the additional amount for being born after 1/2/1955.)

AskWoody LoungerOscar, that’s not what these farmers are up against – it’s not an inherently computer/software-related component. It’s more what you’d call a “hard part” – chunks of steel with chips embedded that don’t work (the tractor won’t recognize that the part has been replaced) without the factory tech using his mobile device to activate it.
1970’s tractors are super-hot right now because a guy can fix one with spare parts on his own. That’s simply not an option with today’s equipment.
I have a mid-sized Kubota (60 hp at the PTO) that has a turbo diesel and some other nifty options; it’s maybe five years old and too small for a big farm, but it’s one of the last of them that doesn’t require a factory tech to repair.
This is a HUGE issue, it’s an unreasonable position taken by the manufacturer, and it’s not just bells & whistles sort of stuff like sat-guided planting and harvesting. It’s day-to-day farm operations with standard equipment.

AskWoody LoungerFor senior citizens 65 and over is the new 1040SR form. You get a larger standard deduction then using the regular 1040 form.
I don’t believe that’s the case – the SR just has a larger typeface and other points of simplification.

AskWoody LoungerThe worst thing about most of the “free” filing services is that you can’t obtain copies of your return(s) when you need them later… unless you pay for them, that is.

AskWoody LoungerOf course, we can’t forget the recent Facebook stupidity (but I repeat myself) about white work vans being used for kidnapping women… “that’s why they have padlocks on the back doors.”

AskWoody LoungerIt was an Android phone – you have to give Google an email address to activate the device. He gave them one tied to a pseudonym.
ETA: The bottom line – if you use ANY location-enabled app, you’re passing that info on to Google or Apple. I don’t trust either of them to be “uncooperative” on my behalf when the local gendarmes come calling.

AskWoody LoungerHe actually used a different app (not written or provided by Google) that made use of his phone’s location services, indirectly involving Google in the mix.

I suggested group policy for the original poster in this thread as his/her PCs are obviously domain-joined, which means they’re all at least Pro or better.
