Peter, thanks for the quick reply and screen shot.  And yes, staring right in front of me, though my defense is that I never bother to look or saw the option at top, and I kept on looking at the bottom of the ToDo setup or one of the options for a given task.

Again appreciate the article as I would have literally missed an option I’ll be using often going forward.

      Take care,

Peter, thank you for the article, it pretty much reinforces my own use of Microsoft ToDo (now if only my “Weekly ToDo List” would get smaller over time 🙂 ).

Question, you mentioned “Each Task can include Steps or subtasks.” and I appreciate the usefullness of that feature, that said I can’t find the ability to add “Steps or subtasks” for each ToDo item. Probably staring right at me, and I’ve double check both the “Microsoft ToDo” app and “New Outlook” view.

Would appreciate further details on how to access “Each Task can include Steps or subtasks.”.

Hi update on Planner, and within days of posting this, “Copy Plan” is backkkkkk. Still haven’t heard from my colleague on whether the issue back in Dec., they weren’t able to properly create / copy a blank Planner plan – use it as a template, has been fixed or not.

    • in reply to: Windows 11 and touch screens #2742570

Hi, regarding needing a touch screen for a desktop, IMHO no, as it’s not worth the extra cost (I’ve not seen pricing for a separate touch screen in a while, but I imagine it’s still significantly more expensive than the standard non-touch).

And, in replacing laptops for my small organization, for the past 3 years I’ve gone non-touch (where it’s an option, very dependent on the model) as no one seem to notice that touch screen was an option on older models.  This is one of those techy things, back before 2022, I felt it was worthwhile to have our laptops standardize on touch screens as I felt there was sufficient justification, I was wrong.

    • Hello, on New Outlook (we have a love / hate relationship with New Outlook and still utilize Classic Outlook when required, such as creating / reading PST files and managing multiple calendars, especially from the perspective of an Executive Assistance) the image does not resize to the window.

Not sure where the claim ““New Outlook” client that does not have this problem” and heh who knows that it may have been fixed by the time my Monday rolls around, though I had a colleague 2 weeks ago miss-read an email by not realizing they were only seeing part of the supplied screenshot.

Hello, my update on the only workplace example, that I’m aware of, is that the Settings > Windows Update > Update History shows that my last CU was back in Feb. 2024 and .Net updates afterwards, though I’ve confirmed that KB5037771 did install (upon turning it on this morning – waiting till the end of the month, I did see it go through the “update” motions before it would allow me to login) by checking the Windows 11 version #.

And thanks to #OldGuyForum the Power shell command does show that KB5037771 did install this morning.

Hopefully #Marvel Wars will provide an update from their end.

      Take care,

P.S.  A ha ha, Settings > Windows Update does offer the 2024-05 Cumulative Update Preview, which is a no thank you from my perspective.

Thanks to Deimon for reminding, and my well deserved face palm moment, to finding out that I have 22631.3447 installed and to “Marvel Wars” question I have 23H2 (that part took me longer than I expected to collaborate, as I didn’t want to presume further).

And with Deimon’s follow up, yes we’ve proven that in my situation (working on the machine now) it’s an Update history problem.

Hopefully I saved both “Marvel Wars” and myself some future time and get on to bigger issues (as to which there’s no shortage of).

Hi “Marvel Wars”, have a Dell Latitude 7420 with Win 11 Pro installed, and had similar issues (since Nov. CU, the last one recorded) updates would install, .Net and other showed up in the Windows Update history, but no CUs since Nov. 2023.  Decided to manually download from Microsoft update site (not using the right name) April’s Win 11 CU and it reported back that it was already installed.  This is one of those scenarios, the updates pulled up / installed / rebooted with no issues this past several months and it was just me being anal that discovered the Update history wasn’t right in mid-April.

So far, out of the 50 + machines we managed on an on-premise domain, I’m the only one experiencing the issue.

Needless to say, I’ll be watching May’s updates very carefully and see if my hypothesis of it being a Windows Update reporting issue holds or not.  I likely won’t know the results till the end of May, as I try to avoid updating till at least a couple of weeks after the latest patch Tuesday has gone by.

    • in reply to: The novelty factor #2652826

Hi, under the for “what it’s worth” heading, our org is piloting CoPilot, and for the moment, very early days, CoPilot along with Team Premium / Pro is going to be worth every penny with it’s ability to take minutes and summarize a meeting (managing / maintaining meetings for our stakeholders is one of our biggest priorities).

That said, I’ve no doubt the “Novelty Effect” will play itself out this year and we won’t know the real benefits till about a year from now.  Though the author hasn’t redeemed himself by complaining about the lack of Excel support and that the document / workbook has to be on OneDrive; as these are known issues / limitations, with Microsoft promising increased CoPilot / Excel interaction later on (though I won’t hold my breath).

Like many other tools in our computer software chest, we’ll learn what CoPilot will provide us in the end and hopefully we’ll concentrate on it’s benefits versus having it to do everything (I point to the infamous using a Spreadsheet as a Word processor or visa-versa period, before saner thoughts took over).

      Take care,

Reolink NVR has the option of only working on an internal network (though I allow mine to be accessed over the Internet when I’m away), and after 2 years the cameras are working well / reasonably priced.   Most of the time I’m managing it using a Chromebook using a browser interface into the NVR.

    • in reply to: The New Outlook – I am confused. #2641892

      Hi All.

“Microsoft 365 Copilot for classic Outlook is apparently coming very soon:”  Well I guess we’ll see when it does.  Interestingly, all the CoPilot prerequisites I’ve come across state, New Outlook.

“Have any of your Office users been forced to change to new Outlook? ”  No, and I will acknowledge that for the most part the choice to switch for Outlook and Teams, then back again has worked well (a couple of issues with Teams New on Windows 10, but like many things, not consistent).

“(I like Aptos and use it in Outlook, but no one is forced to do that.)”  And I’m ok with Aptos too, but the point is it has become the default and in an organization that wishes to process changes appropriately (not in Susan’s Tax period scenario, though I share / agree with her concerns) all of the sudden change (spread out over a month) does cause some users (those were official correspondence is their life) headaches and for what reason????

B, I’m going to add to Susan’s concerns, especially from a corporate perspective, and yes Microsoft has promised PST’s, but it ain’t there now along with a number of changes that have my users cringing with the prospect of something else Microsoft crams down our Office tools throats (Aptos, is it worth the change, really).  Next comes that those of us wanting to utilize Microsoft CoPilot Microsoft 365 (yep, not a favourite of many AskWoody participants) must use the new Outlook.

Anyways, one step forward, two steps back, then we grudgingly move on as we don’t have a choice…. 🙂

    • in reply to: Who are you? (2024 edition) #2640866

Hi my bad for not participating in the survey this year, which I blame on (it’s been a very busy January) getting to the end of the Newsletter and running out of time.  A suggestion, a separate email with the survey link would have, at least for me, increased the chance of me having it in my inbox and clicking on it when I managed to find a moment.

Otherwise, congrats and look forward to participating next year.

    • Hi, seeing / noting B’s & Alex5723’s replies, I’ve not enable for the organization “set the Strict level under Enhanced security mode”, it just started to happen (I’m not sure if I experienced it on my assigned systems – as the IT person has to have more than one, just because) though I will look.

I was wondering if Microsoft had once again changed the config / rules / whatever and I missed the memo (assuming a memo was sent).

      More tomorrow.

      Thanks all,

      IT Manager Geek

    • No, or more to the point, nothing the organization would have authorized or I’m aware of.
