The next logical step would be to incorporate over-install in this function, where apps, settings and files are kept. Now we stil have to use a downloaded ISO or USB stick and start setup.exe while in Windows.

In general a CPU from second generation I5 will be more than sufficient for your purpose.
I have a lot of those PC’s running with my clients and they all function well.

From fourth gen CPU onwards,  average CPU temps will be much lower. I would prefer this as a minimum.

Make sure you have SATA3 ports, a SSD to put Windows on and at least 8GB of memory.

    • Windows 1803 was installed very early on my laptop, so this problem ws not known yet, I guess.

There is a Intel 600p in there and I noticed that with 1803 the SSD ran hot (55-60 degrees) after a while and stayed on that level. I could not notice any additional activity on either CPU or Disk with Process Explorer.

With 1709 it normally runs around 25-30 degrees, so I wonder what was going on under the hood with 1803.

For the time being I am back on 1709.

I wonder how I know that the problem is solved, as I set the update to Semi Annual with 40 days delay.
