Sometimes I use Microsoft Update Catalog. Sometimes I use WUMgr. Sometimes I use Windows Update. It’s good to have multiple methods of performing a task.

Do people click the button before the updates are done installing or is this a settings issue or different version of windows issue?

If you are installing multiple updates at the same time, wait until all updates are installed prior to clicking the reboot button. If one or more updates are in progress when you reboot, your reboot will interrupt the update progress (which will likely start again after the reboot). However, it’s not a good idea to mess with the dog while it’s eating.

As to that ‘badging’ nag as I understand it, it will be phased in and won’t happen immediately. So some may get it sooner than later.

As a personal preference and from the “assist” viewpoint, troubleshooting would be more straight-forward if Microsoft released all bells and whistles at the same time for the same version and build. It’s very difficult to determine if there’s error or delayed feature when some users receive a new update toy and other users do not receive the new update toy.

The impression left in my mind is that UWP is fragile. Throughout this whole thing, win32 programs worked fine… it was the UWP ones that failed, multiple times.

And limited, too. You don’t always get all the software features in a UWP package that you get in the separate-install (Win32) programs. (Python 3.10, for example, is much more functional outside UWP.)

FYI, since some previous Cumulative .NET updates were never offered via Windows update (they had to be “manually” downloaded and installed), what you should really be asking is whether any AskWoody users who didn’t install the .NET OOB have been offered the July .NET updates?

Is this the .NET situation for anyone here?

    • I don’t have the answer to your question, but I do have a suggestion.

Go to the Microsoft Update Catalog, download, and install the appropriate .Net Framework 4.8 (KB5028853) update. This approach is sort of a belt and suspenders approach.
