AskWoody_MVPSeptember 4, 2022 at 4:15 am in reply to: FYI: Edge 105.0.1343.25 refuse to launch after update #2474724Microsoft has released Edge 105.0.1343.25 (a new branch) on September 1, 2022. But I got feedback from German blog readers, that the browser can’t start after update on distinct Windows builds. The reason isn’t know yet – there is no workaround till yet.
https://borncity.com/win/2022/09/02/microsoft-edge-105-0-1343-25-1-september-2022/Moderator edit to fix link
Solution from below:
Just verified deleting the key MetricsReportingEnabled under
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edgefixes the issue

Susan Bradley. Reason: Adding solution
Susan, thanks for your added solution and your support (also with the Edge developers) – I got a bit lost the last days during that many changes
Had not the time to update my post here and focussing me to keep the linked blog post up to date.

AskWoody_MVPAs far as I remember – a German admin also reported similar observations from a Terminal Server related to my article:
Adobe Reader 21.001.20145 causes 32BitMAPIBroker.exe crash
Try to report it to Adobe in their forum.

AskWoody_MVPBeware of the Windows 10 security updates. MS is patching a printer vulnerability again (first patch was in Dec. 2020). I received massive reports, that these updates are causing BSODs on printing. Reinstalling the printer driver should fix it – I’m not sure, if the updates are pulled (some users reporting, that the updates are no more offered, but there is nothing mentioned from MS).

AskWoody_MVPFor SSD’s, in my view Windows “Defragment and Optimize Drives” makes obsolete any need for running chkdsk /r on anything other than HDD’s (spinning platter).
We don’t talk about Windows “Defragment and Optimize Drives” – chkdsk /r means ‘repair files’ and need to bee used in combination with /f.
But a German reader pointed out, that the new chkdsk /scan option may be better and don’t have this issue.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/chkdsk
Anyway, the bug has to be fixed (although it’s not clear, what’s exactly triggers this fault). I’ve forwarded the issue to Microsoft’s Windows Update group via my social media channels. Hope that helps.

AskWoody_MVPDoes KB4592438 also affect windows 10 2004?
From what I read, chkdsk /f hangs at 100% in Win 10 2004 and never restart – a manual restart is required.

AskWoody_MVPI’ve reported this issue to MS end of October, after I covered it in the blog post Windows 10 forgets certificates during upgrade – at that time we thought, it was caused by October 2020 Updates. Glad, MS confirmed, that it was caused by Sept. 2020 Updates in conjunction with some not refreshed builds.
It hits some people forced to home office – they where no more able to use their VPNs.
And, what MS didn’t say: The certificate issue also affects Office 365 downloads (but I’m not sure, if it’s the same error). See: Office 365: Download fails (in ConfigMgr) after Oct. 2020 Updates
