AskWoody PlusHi Susan,
I don’t have a ‘c:\System32\ folder’.I’m on W10 21H2; so is it Ok to update? -
Frwin
AskWoody PlusIn fact, the model I can have (a Dell Vostro) is sold only with W11 Pro (at least in France).
That’s why I asked if there was any drawback, inconvenience for a home user to have W11 Pro.
From yours answers, it looks OK
Best regards
PS : Sorry again for the poor english, it is not my main language.

AskWoody PlusJust to be sure :
I’m on ‘Pause’ in Windows Update until the beginning of April.
If I want to skip the March Updates and wait for the April ones, will it be OK to pause Windows Update for one more month (until the beginning of May) ?

AskWoody PlusAugust 2, 2020 at 1:08 am in reply to: MS-DEFCON 3: There are some oddities, but it’s time to install the July 2020 patches #2285499Well, finally, i put the power off. When it restarted, a ‘reparation tool’ indication appeared (i don’t know if it comes from W10 or Dell) and 5 minutes later, everything was OK. I really can’t stand all this W10 update stuff and the time and attention it requires. Next time, i think i’ll take a Chromebook…

AskWoody PlusAugust 1, 2020 at 4:41 pm in reply to: MS-DEFCON 3: There are some oddities, but it’s time to install the July 2020 patches #2285421Hi, I’m on W10 Home 1909.
Five hours ago, i started installing the July updates. Everything seemed to be OK; at some point, I restarted the system to end the process.
It was 5 hours ago. Since I made this, the screen is black after restart, I hear some rare noises indicating that it seems to work, but this is worrying.
If it stays longer like that, what should I do ? I tried to stop it again and resart it, but it didn’t change anything (black screen). Is there a way to start the system and come back to the preceeding situation ? (I didn’t make any backup).

AskWoody PlusDecember 12, 2019 at 11:55 pm in reply to: Installing the latest Win7 Servicing Stack Update KB 4523206 may lock up your PC #2018894Hi,
I haven’t installed any Windows update since September, waiting for the January ‘end’. The only ones I get are for MSE. Some days ago, I also got the black screen afer the ‘welcome’ blue one. After several tests, I came to think it came from MSE. I uninstalled it, and the black screen didn’t appear again. I put Avast in its place and everything is OK.

AskWoody PlusAugust 7, 2018 at 11:54 pm in reply to: August 2018 Office non-Security updates are available #209272So, frow what I understand, we don’t apply July patches; we wait for a Defcon change to apply July (and August) patches.

I had understood that this version of 4093118 was Ok. Must I uninstall it ?

AskWoody PlusApril 25, 2018 at 10:31 am in reply to: Where do we stand on the April “Group B” Win7 patches? #187226W7 64 GrpA
I installed April patches (including 4100480 and 4093118) monday MORNING, after Woody had published his article ‘Total meltdown exploit now available’.
Since then, no problem encountered.
Woody seems to write here that it is the LAST version of 4093118 (published on monday EVENING) that is alright.
Am I OK, or must I reinstall 4093118 ?

AskWoody PlusApril 23, 2018 at 11:17 am in reply to: Total Meltdown (not Meltdown!) exploit now available #186632Hi, I’m W7 64, group A, and hadn’t installed any patch since February.
With WU, I’ve just had 4100480 and 4093118. I’ve applied both (plus some Office patches and MSRT), and haven’t had, yet, any problem.
Thanks again to Woody.
