AskWoody_MVPone good reason why I only do in-place upgrades using ISO installation media created onto a usb stick to perform such major Win10 upgrades from such an old version onto a recent version, and takes about less than two hours using that method (and about an hour or less on modern PCs). I NEVER do something like this using Windows Update.

AskWoody_MVPnot worth getting Windows Server 2022 as it uses a much different version/build number than Win10; Win10 updates are incompatible with Server 2022 and vice-versa.
so I’d lean towards what Susan has suggested.Windows Server 2022 is based on the “Iron” codebase. It is similar to Windows 10 21H2, but its updates are incompatible with it.

AskWoody_MVPI’d rather take that Acer laptop to the nearest laptop repair shop to have the CMOS battery changed by a professional since laptop CMOS batteries in some laptops cannot easily be removed & replaced.
check out this thread from Tom’s Guide if you want to try to replace the cmos battery yourself:

AskWoody_MVPDecember 13, 2024 at 5:55 pm in reply to: Microsoft Drops mandatory TPM 2.0 requirement for Windows 11; Upgrade Now Possib #2725528Microsoft Drops mandatory TPM 2.0 requirement for Windows 11; Upgrade Now Possible Without It
Microsoft has updated its upgrade policy to allow the installation of Windows 11 on systems that do not meet the previous hardware requirements, including those without a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0.
that article above feels like a “click bait” article.
in response, I recently saw this on Neowin:
Microsoft confirms it’s not lowering Windows 11 system requirements for unsupported hardware

AskWoody_MVPsince I avoided & skipped the iOS 18.1.1 update on my iPhone SE 2nd gen device, I manually upgraded the iOS directly from 17.7 to 18.2 many hours ago and no serious problems found with iOS 18.2.
edit: the Firefox web browser version on that patch Master list is now outdated; latest official release of Firefox is 133.0.3.
ditto for Vivaldi web browser in which the latest version is 7.0, not 6.5

AskWoody_MVPI’ve been using this for some time now, but I never see any mention of it in here. Even did a search and found nothing.
https://www.carifred.com/wau_manager/#overview
Just looking for opinions good or bad. So far it has worked great for me. It even allows you to defer patches if you want to.
you will need to download & run the latest version of WAU Manager from time to time if you have obtained an older version from the past.
sometimes newer versions of WAU Manager are released so check the web site every 2 to 3 months for a new version if you have an outdated version and replace it with a recent one.

AskWoody_MVPThanks all,
I have IPV4 and IPV6 dropped out while the network was catching up. They ran all diagnostics and nothing was wrong with the router which they classify as a gateway. Right now IPV6 says no network/internet in windows 10. As Bob99 suggested I will wait a day or so because xfinity rebooted several times today and when they sent the text that the work was completed they did not explain it takes a few hours to catch up as was explained to me after the fact. As long as it is not in dire need for IPV6 to use my internet I will continue to monitor for my home consumer laptop. After several hours I received a second text saying all work was finally complete which meant caught up and changes took place.
I usually run ItSamples.com’s Network Activity Indicator tool to check my WLAN & Ethernet adapters connections with both IPv4 (TCP/IP v4) & IPv6 (latest version works great with Win10 & Win11)
edit: I have this valuable app installed & always loaded at startup, so there’s a network tray icon in the lower-right hand corner that animates; something that was there in the XP/Vista era.

AskWoody_MVPDecember 6, 2024 at 6:15 am in reply to: Windows 7 games for Windows 11 was un-installed for some reason after 24H2 … #2722921When I recently (few months ago) upgraded from Win10 to Win11, I did have to install Win7 games for Win11 (had Win7 games for Win10) and didn’t think much of it since I thought there had to be a reason for the new program. Didn’t know that when a service pack (I know; not called that any longer; lol) happens, my games would get un-installed. Thanks for the info. Re-installing the Win7 games for Win11 wasn’t rally that big a deal; just was un-expected.
you mean something like this from Majorgeeks.com?
yeah, it is expected behavior (aka. “by design”) for the Win7 games to be removed after either upgrading to Win10 or Win11 or doing an in-place upgrade repair install of either Win10 or Win11
