AskWoody_MVPWhoops. Disregard my previous comment.
@John Olsen: Are you using Trend Micro Internet Security 2009 (version 17)? Anything less than Trend Micro v17 is not compatible with Vista SP2. Read this Trend Micro KB article. As for Kaspersky Internet Security [KIS] software, version 2010 beta seems to be compatible with Vista SP2 as noted in this kaspersky forum thread. So far the current version, KIS 2009, seems to be working okay with Vista SP2 as noted in this kaspersky forum thread

AskWoody_MVPJohn, who has been making comments on my Vista SP2 blog, should read your latest blog, Woody about the problems with Vista SP2 and Kaspersky. John uses Kaspersky software and I don’t want him to suffer the problems with SP2 conflicting with Kaspersky.
Other kinds of security software not working correctly with Vista SP2 or falsely flagging the SP2 files or SP2 standalone installer files as malware or virus include BitDefender, BullGuard and WebRoot SpySweeper. If there are any Vista users out there using any of these products, do NOT install Vista SP2. Hold off the SP2 installation and obtain updates for these security software first.

AskWoody_MVPMay 31, 2009 at 3:09 am in reply to: Get ready for Windows Vista and Server 2008 SP2; It has arrived! #59712Several kinds of antivirus and antispyware software are mistakenly detecting SP2 and their files as malware or virus. If you have obtained SP2 legally from the Microsoft site and your security software is detecting SP2 as malware/virus, please report the SP2 “false positives” to the makers of those antivirus/antispyware programs so that they can update their detection files to no longer detect SP2 as malware/virus.
@Steve: UNblock your Webroot Antivirus/Antispyware security package to allow Vista SP2 to install. also, contact Webroot about the Vista SP2 “false positive” problem so that they can offer a fix to it.
@john: Don’t bother getting “Morro” or any microsoft antivirus solution because Morro is NOT even available to the public yet until near the end of 2009. I recommend using Avast, Avira or AVG as these three free antivirus products are very good. and DUMP McAfee as soon as possible. -

AskWoody_MVPBummer that NOD32 version 4.x doesn’t support Vista SP2.
check this blog:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/donna/archive/2009/05/28/eset-to-vista-sp2-end-users-downgrade-to-v3.aspxESET suggests downgrading from version 4 to version 3. fortunately, I’m already using NOD32 v3.0.684 on a Vista SP2 based Dell laptop and didn’t have to upgrade to v4.

AskWoody_MVPMay 27, 2009 at 11:00 pm in reply to: Get ready for Windows Vista and Server 2008 SP2; It has arrived! #59700Only the five language standalone download of Vista SP2 is available at Microsoft Download Center and Microsoft Update Catalog. The all language standalone download of SP2 will be posted later in June and SP2 should also be available on Windows Update shortly.
I still think you should wait for a few months, Liz. Some users who have attempted to install Vista SP2 recently are having installation problems with it. I’ve already seen posts at the MS Technet forums about their problems.

AskWoody_MVPMay 26, 2009 at 6:57 pm in reply to: Get ready for Windows Vista and Server 2008 SP2; It has arrived! #59696Hi Liz, I’m EP, not Woody.
Microsoft has just posted Vista/Server 2008 Service Pack 2 at the Microsoft Download Center and should also now be available at Windows Update.
You may want to hold off in installing KB955430 and Vista SP2 for a while. We’ll wait for a response from Woody when he says if it’s safe to install these two updates.

AskWoody_MVPouch!
Google Chrome is still missing a Print Preview option, which is featured in IE/Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape/Safari/Opera browsers.
Chrome version 1.0 was a big disappointment to me since it had a bunch of missing features but Chrome 2.0 beta has included some of them such as support for “Chrome Extensions” which are similar to the Firefox Add-ons. The google chrome extensions are in developmental stages and are not in final production yet.

AskWoody_MVPWRONG, Johanna. Microsoft has NOT yet abandoned support for Office 2000. At least not until mid-July 2009.
Read this MS Office Support Lifecycle page:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=lifeOffice“Office 2000 – Microsoft will continue to offer mainstream support for Office 2000 through June 30, 2004. The Office 2000 extended support period will last from July 1, 2004 through July 14, 2009. The latest Office 2000 service pack is required for hotfix support.”

AskWoody_MVPMay 4, 2009 at 6:43 pm in reply to: Windows Vista Service Pack 2 is available – but only on MSDN and TechNet #59761Woody, please read Techarp.com’s article on the Latest Vista SP2 Release Schedule:
http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=604&pgno=0Release To Web [RTW] (Wave 0) of SP2 = Expected End of May 2009
So Vista SP2 could be available around the final week of May

AskWoody_MVPMay 1, 2009 at 6:44 am in reply to: MS-DEFCON 2: Office 2007 Pack 2 is up – avoid all patches for now #59784You are absolutely correct, Guy and Joe Perez. There seems to be some confusion (I won’t say which people are causing the confusion) as to whether or not Vista SP2 has been actually released.
RTM means “Release to Manufacturing”; it does NOT mean it’s actually available for download.
RTW means “Release to Web”; this is when Microsoft officially makes Vista SP2 available to the public on Microsoft Update, Windows Update and at the Microsoft Download Center.
Let’s all read this Techarp.com article concerning Vista SP2’s release schedule:
http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=604 -

AskWoody_MVPKB955430 is NOT Vista Service Pack 2. It’s a pre-requisite update for SP2. Read MS KB article 955430 carefully:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955430And isn’t Vista SP2 supposed to be KB948465? Vista SP2 is not even out on Windows Update nor at the Microsoft Download Center.

AskWoody_MVPI have no idea. the “version 3” change seems to be “window dressing” on the Office Compatibility pack download information page.
Office Compatibility pack SP2 has just been released:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=4f97ab2f-1f7d-49a3-9123-7ca3e703b916
Disregard my earlier message to install SP1. After installing original Office Compatibility pack, install the newly released SP2 update.
