it depends on what version of Windows you are using, john.

Under WinXP, WGAN (wga notifications) is relatively easy to remove if WGAN was somehow installed. xp-Antispy is one tool that not only disables WGA checks but removes the WGAN files.

WAT is only included in Win7, woody.

    • I’ve just tested my Hotmail email with Firefox 3.6 under WinXP SP3 and I do NOT get the problem. strange that other people who have FF 3.6 installed are experiencing it a few days ago but I’m not getting the problem.

    • weird Hotmail problem.

not a problem when using Google Chrome 4.0. Hotmail’s Replay and Forward buttons work correctly and include the incoming message text.

what version of Chrome did you have installed before updating to 4.0.249.78, maghullyback?

four major versions of Google Chrome and still NO “Print Preview” feature. I know I will NOT be using Chrome to print web pages until Print Preview gets implemented into Chrome.

    • At last, I’ve gotten a confirmation email from the Windows Secrets Lounge last night allowing me to post there. a little long overdue but it got through. better late than never.

Facebook and Firefox 3.6 issue discussed in Bug 536900. Facebook will attempt to resolve the issue and make their apps and their site more compatible with Firefox 3.6.

This blog has been updated to link an article in response to Infoworld’s blog on Firefox being doomed.

    • speaking of The Lounge, rc primak, I have attempted to register at the Lounge for several days using either my yahoo or hotmail email account and have NOT received any confirmation/verification email allowing me to make any posts on the Lounge. my frustration is almost growing with that site. and I was using Firefox 3.6 to sign up to that site.

    • There’s been a discussion on RCK’s outrageous Firefox article at this mozillaZine forum thread.

check out what one of the forum moderators said there, rc primak.

On a more serious note, Firefox 3.6 runs pretty well on my WinXP SP3 machine. just need to try it out on the Vista laptop and see how it performs.

The IE security patches from MS Security Bulletin MS10-012 are out now. IE 5.01 SP4 for Win2000 SP4 IS also affected and there’s a patch for that one too.

    • For those using WinXP/Win2003, upgrade to either IE7 or IE8 ASAP. Win2000 users don’t have much options but to either keep IE6 or eradicate IE6 altogether from their W2k systems.

btw, woody, I started using Firefox since version 1.0 back in November 2004. It certainly felt like a better Netscape Navigator browser. Fast forward to January 2010, I’m using the latest Firefox 3.6 RC and it works well. Final release of Firefox 3.6 should be out in a few days.

Important to note that the MS10-001 security updates replace the MS09-029 security updates.

My aunts do use an old Dell computer with Win2000 SP4 and will continue to use it, even past its July 2010 extended support date. Right now they can’t afford to buy a new PC with pre-installed Win7 and they are still using some programs that aren’t compatible with Windows 7.

    • in reply to: MS-DEFCON 4: Time to get patched #58789

Win2000 users should download and apply the revised “V2” (KB951748) MS08-037 security update ASAP as it was released as part of the December 2009 security updates. The “original” KB951748/MS08-037 patch for Win2k, which was released back in July 2008, partially fixed the problem. So download and install V2 of the KB951748 update for Win2000 to provide FULL protection.

BTW, Woody, part of my 2010 New Year’s Resolution: give AVG Free Antivirus another chance on my computers which I am currently doing. the latest build of AVG Free 8.5 (version 8.5.431) seems to run well on my XP computer and my mom’s Vista laptop.

Ah it brings back some memories in 1999 when I was using an NEC computer pre-installed with Win95, which had an internal 28.8kbps dialup modem.

    • in reply to: 0day attack in Adobe Reader – again #58846

UPDATE: Adobe is scheduled to release updates to Adobe Reader to fix the 0day PDF attack problem on January 12, 2010 as noted on Adobe’s blog.

    • in reply to: 0day attack in Adobe Reader – again #58845

Are you sure, rc primak? the latest Foxit Reader “update” was released back on November 26, 2009 – version 3.1.4 build 1125 as noted on the Foxit Reader downloads page. Don’t know what you’re talking about, silly rc primak. A recent update would or should have been released in December, NOT in November.

At least those who use Sumatra PDF Viewer are NOT affected by the 0day PDF security flaw. One forum member confirmed it here.

No probs, Woody. You may also want to try out Sumatra PDF Viewer, a light weight PDF file reader that starts up faster than Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader.
