I have always had nothing but dial-up access, and I have not seen anything that comes close to resembling a telephone anywhere within Thunderbird – perhaps your friend has loaded an extension that causes the telephone to appear – I’m running Thunderbird right out of the ‘box’ – no extensions.

I’m not having any problem polling 6 separate email accounts – 5 from my ISP and one GMail account – everything comes thru just fine.

I have used the earlier versions of SpinRite and I always thought that it was for fixing bad spots within the drive, either by relocating or doing a low-level format of the bad area, so in that aspect it would not be doing any type of data recovery.
