AskWoody LoungerI knew, but I was running on about 3 hours sleep in 48 hours when I posted the response. While I was waiting for some mainframe processes to finish, I decided to visit the Lounge and see what was happening. Mainframe applications pick the worst times to crash and with the most disastrous results that require more than a couple of hours of recovery time!

AskWoody LoungerTransparent background is not really an option in Windows, but there is a freeware program called Deskcolor to fix things up for you at http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,,000SYB,.html

AskWoody LoungerI would re-load mine too, but my dog made a lot of little pieces out of my stash of precious floppies and CD’s a few months ago – needless to say I was and still am a little steamed
about that! I have not gotten around to getting another copy of Win95 or most of the other software that was so delicious to my dog…so I guess I’ll have to put up with the slow boot-up and pray that I don’t have a crash in the software that is on the missing disks ….

AskWoody LoungerThanks Chris, I am cleaning out the “temp” files and running de-frag on a regular basis, but think that I also really need something like what Phil did to clean up the registers. I have installed and then un-installed so much software over the years, that I just know that the registers are full of junk! I have not gone to another OS
’cause if it ain’t broke – don’t fix it
. The machine that has Win95 on it is running, for the most part OK, but it is taking longer and longer for it to boot up and sometimes it seems to go into la-la land on shutdown. Cleaning out the junk as far as temporary files goes, did help a little bit, but not much.

AskWoody LoungerWord 97 does indeed have a means to rotate text within a textbox – comes right up on the Text Box toolbar – the blue A with what looks like arrows – click on that and the text rotates 90 degrees, click on it again – another 90 degree rotation, etc.
