      Where on Cape Cod?

I’m originally from Osterville and my wife is one of the rare escaped Nantucket natives in captivity.

Just curious … I’m not soliciting a job … since FEMA keeps me pretty busy.

      Thanx Mark …
Our other issue is that we’ve done some app development in Access 97 which we moved to 2k and Access XP just “ain’t the same” (According to informed opinion).
It would be nice if they left alone a dbms that works and has garnered a lot of support in the user area for a few years and quit trying to make it into a “front end for SQL”.

      Many thanks!
Maybe the adverse comments I think I’ve heard were from Win2k and OXP.

To All who participated in this “mini saga”:

Thanks for the suggestions and interest. Today after re-reading the messages in this string, I decided to download Win2k SP2 after reading how it “enables 128 bit encryption” on the Microsoft site.

I’m happy to inform you that SP2 downloaded and installed apparently without any problems … AND I NOW HAVE 128 BIT CYPHER STRENGTH.

      Thanks again for the suggestions.

    • in reply to: Win2kPro and IE5.5 #552365

Have removed TeakUI2k, google bar, “cleaned” the registry (with Norton), and reinstalled IE6

Still showing 56 bit cypher strength. Matbe the answer is to go back to Win98SE and IE5.5 128 bit!?!

      Thanks for response

      MerC:
      Thanks for the suggestions.
Downloaded and installed IE6 this morning via T1. Install successful — however, IE6 Help -> About … still shows “Cypher Strength 56 Bit”.
BTW … should I be in the IE forum instead of Win2k?
Have enjoyed your site and picked up some useful; stuff.
A light just went on … downloaded and installed TweakUI (for W2k)from your place very recently. I remember that Norton SW and TweakUI used to fight in 98SE. I have NSW2002 and TweakUI 2k installed.
Will try removing TweakUI2k and see if that may possibly have an effect.

      Thanks again …

We usually place a copy of the workgroup mdw file in the directory where the front end resides and call it with the shortcut.

      Charlotte:

I need to clear up the record on this problem.

ELF was NOT the problem. After a couple of years’ use there were a number of other problems, so I backed up my data, reformatted the drive, installed Win 2k Pro, and reinstalled O2k. Problems have not re-appeared in a week or so.

The solution was perhaps drastic, but I was sort of looking for an excuse to install Win 2k Pro anyhow.

      Thanks for the help.

      Charlotte:

Thanks for the info and suggestions.

My memory problems are gone after the previously mentioned saga.

I realize in that process I may have inadvertently corrected another problem and that the situation wasn’t attributable to ‘elves’, but was following the “what have I done/installed recently?” procedure. LIFO has been axiomatic in trouble shooting since I got hooked on PCs (Apple 2e and VisiCalc).

      Thanks again

      Charlotte:

Purchased and installed ELF. Seemed like a great idea and seemed to work.

Several days later started getting “insuffucient memory – close some apps” (or words to that effect) in Access — particularly in vba code windows. Since I didn’t have other apps open, Access locked.

After a few days of the problem used the Control Panel Add/Remove function to remove the app. “Insuff Memory” problems continued. Just finished today with second complete O2k reinstall (after removal via Control panel and Eraser2k). Also reinstalled Win98 SE.

Am willing to admit that ELF may not have created the problem, but have asked for a refund.

This is NOT a complaint and I thank you for your continuing help. Just thought I’d pass along the info, although there probably won’t be many viewers going back to 10/16.

    • From what I’ve experienced … Access ALWAYS shows the current line where data is being entered as well as the next (blank) new record IF you’re allowing additions.

      Charlotte:

Thanks again. ELF looks like it might be useful.

      Thanks for the responses.

Will look into your suggestions, Charlotte.

      Mark:

      Thanks for the response.

Yes … if the user knew what a table, query, or report was … AND if I wanted to let him/her into the front end and/or grant the necessary rights to create/modify objects.

I had in mind a sort of “choose from a list” to “fill in the blanks and create a temporary datasheet” utility.

Guess I’ll have to give it a lot of thought and try build it myself … maybe a sort of multiple criteria query/form.

Trust me … “query by form” or “query by selection” is too complicated for my users!

      Charlotte:

Many thanks for the help. It and you are greatly appreciated.

Found the Microsoft Q197526 ‘NotInList’ from the search string and it answered my questions. My NotInList cbos now work well. Am using the ‘entry form’ suggested code.

Thanks again for your patience with those of us who don’t quite know where to find the appropriate help references.
