Actually the problem has been somewhat mitigated.
I’m no longer getting the “There are items in your outbox, etc, etc” on shutdown even though while using the program It’s still trying to send an item.

      Ahyhow … thanks again,

I followed the advice, downloaded the utility, ran it, and was able to look into every “crevice” where Outlook would store something.
I found a couple of items that were in an ‘outbox’, deleted them, but the “You have unsent Mail, etc” msg persists when closing outlook.
Since it’s more of a minor annoyance than a real problem on a fast, well-running machine, I’ll probably try living with it for the moment rather than doing a proper fix.
If anyone has any further suggestions …?!?!?!
      Thanks for your kind efforts.

      Yes …
Nothing in drafts in either GMail (Which is the “base” Acct in Outlook) or yahoo mail

I agree that it will take some time to migrate large enterprises from Windows 7. The Federal agency I’m employed by is just changing from XP to Win7.

Yep … that almost did it! Not perfect, but now I have small icons and readable fonts. Thanks … Dick Arlington

I neglected to mention the speedy startups and shutdowns — significantly better than 7. The one item I can’t seem to find is the detailed desktop configuration utility where one can change the fonts and sizes for everything independently. In other words, I like the 125% display setting fonts, but the icons are too big and there’s too much space between them. I know … picky, picky, picky! Dick Arlington

I also initially “fought” the new Win8 Metro system. Then I found that I could click on the desktop “icon” on the interface and get to more familiar territory. Since I missed the Start button I downloaded a couple of the “fixes” and discovered they were more trouble than navigating and adjusting the Metro interface. So … I’m in the camp that has become comfortable with the new features and likes them. BTW … I have Win 8 installed as a dual boot option on a win7 Pro Dell 64bit Vostro with plenty of RAM. Thanks …

Strangely enough I don’t have a MyDocs download folder on this laptop.

I guess the security gurus at dhs don’t want us downloading stuff, so I’ll try later when I get home.

      ok … I give up!

Where do the Make Use Of wizards download it to?

      Thanks,

      ok, folks …

I’ve been properly chastised by you Win 7 Loyalists and have reinstalled Win 7 Pro in a dual boot situation with XP Pro SP3.

When I need to go back and forth from a Domain to the local machine I’ll boot into XP; for continuous (?!?! more or less) local use I’ll go with Win 7, which — as I said initially — I like a lot.

I’ll live with the monor inconveniences and soldier on.

      Thanks for the info.
I had the same time lag and the fix worked for me.

I’m a member of the administrators group and am sending this from the w2k laptop also on my desk which doesn’t lose it’s LAN settings. I just booted it up because am making an Acronis 9.0 backup of the XP box.
Will try removing one set of LAN settings (automatic configuration script) and see if the proxy settings hold. Maybe I’m confusing it by having both sets available.
