    • Question: For those of us sitting on Win10 1703, who are lucky enough to have the PRO version…. We can delay “feature updates” (upgrades) for 365 days. When does our time run out and we get forced with the still-Beta version of Win10 1709? Or do we get rolled directly into v1803 if it’s released before v1709 is stable?

Windows 10 1709 is not beta.  It was released last year.  My advice is to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade.  Keep moving forward, and never look back.  Windows 10 is getting to be really amazing, and the improvements are phenomenal.

    • I wonder how long people will continue to put up with this mess before abandoning Windows. Sometimes it takes a huge problem to get people to make a move, and at some point, people are going to start moving away from Microsoft. The snowball will start rolling, and Microsoft won’t be able to stop it once it starts.

No, stop being a party-pooper.  Windows 10 keeps getting better, and better all the time.  You really need to provide more details.  I haven’t any issues.

    • In my opinion all software is continually under development.  I don’t hold back on any version of Windows, and am running RS3 right now.  I definitely like the Creator’s Update, and it runs very well.  Sure, there will be updates to fix things, but this always is the case.  All-in-all I see no reason to hold back from this update or any updates.

    • Newer versions of ConvertXtoDVD cause Green Screen of Death before the program fully starts. I reverted back to an older version 4.2.0.0 w/o any issues. I do not know what is the newest version which will work with this build.

So, not being able to zero your statistics is a benefit? Isn’t that a strange way of looking at it?

My exact words were “Having your statistics stored in the cloud is a benefit of the MS account.” I did not say “not being able to zero your statistics is a benefit.

    • in reply to: Reset Las Vegas Solitaire Cumulative scores #1587857

Rick, of course I WOULD be logged in with my MS account! I resisted that for quite some time thinking I was gaining by “staying local”, but eventually decided that it was six of one, half dozen of the other…as a matter of fact I believe I had even raised the question on this board prior…

No matter, the point being you were/are correct that it doesn’t work on an MS account.

      Sigh…

      Thanks though…
      Chuck

Having your statistics stored in the cloud is a benefit of the MS account. You can sign in on any computer, and the games you play will be credited to you. If you are signed into MS Solitaire with a MS account, and you want to zero your statistics you can not with this account, but you can create a new account.

You are stuck in time. So are we all. No one’s clock is advancing.

Thanks: The Windows key + Spacebar key worked; I changed it to US (not UK), and now it works fine. Good tip! For those reading this post: Press the Windows key + the Spacebar and it will toggle between the available layouts each time you do it. Note: You may have to add the language you want first as per the above “Changing keyboard layout”.

I was going to suggest popping the keys off, and interchanging them.

    • in reply to: Scheduled restore points #1584778

I have it run hidden. First I want to tell you that I have a folder on my C drive called customizations, and folder in it. So these files are specific to that. I keep my restore point files in C:CustomizationsRestorePoint folder. You would need to change if you want in a different path. All of this runs HIDDEN at start up. In the RestorePoint folder create 3 files. First is CreateRestorePoint.cmd It’s contents are

      Code:
wmic.exe /Namespace:\rootdefault Path SystemRestore Call CreateRestorePoint "Automatic Restore Point", 100, 7

The second file is CreateRestorePoint.vbs It’s contents are

      Code:
      Dim WinScriptHost
      Set WinScriptHost = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
      WinScriptHost.Run Chr(34) & "C:CustomizationsRestorePointCreateRestorePoint.cmd" & Chr(34), 0
      Set WinScriptHost = Nothing

and the third file is RestorePointatStartup.xml It’s contents are

      Code:

        Restore Point at Startup

            true

            S-1-5-32-545
            HighestAvailable

          IgnoreNew
          false
          true
          true
          false
          false

            true
            false

          true
          true
          false
          false
          false
          true
          false
          PT72H
          3

            CreateRestorePoint.vbs
            C:CustomizationsRestorePoint

You can easily make these files with notepad. Be sure and save them with proper extension by placing quotation marks around the full name in the save as menu. For example “RestorePointatStartup.xml” Next open Task Scheduler, and delete your previous task. Then click Import, and browse to the xml file and import it. When you restart you will create a restore point at startup.

    • in reply to: Command-line help for task scheduler please. #1583605

I have done all that, but is still doesn’t work.

When I go to save the xml file I am warned that it might not work if saved with ANSI encoding. I have saved with both ANSI and Unicode, but neither works.

You do know you must actually import it into task scheduler. Don’t you have it from the first time? When asked just click OK, and save. Whatever it wants to do is alright. There really shouldn’t be an issue surrounding this, just accept the default. Import into task scheduler. You really need to follow the directions I have posted EXACTLY as I posted them. No assumptions please.

    • in reply to: Command-line help for task scheduler please. #1583457

Make sure you have system restore enabled. Also, open Task Scheduler, highlight the task, and click on run. Check your restore points. Then restart, and recheck.

If you don’t use antivirus, then how did you come up with these words of wisdom?
“All the other antivirus products do is slow performance, and wreck havoc.”
p.s Havoc is wreaked rather than wrecked…

Because I have been using computers since the early 1970s, and have a little bit of experience! 😆

If you are using Chrome perhaps this will help. It is in a forum, and the OP did not reply as to whether or not it worked, but I thought it was worth a try. https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/chrome/MfJeLOqWOMs/ceMlGKUOCgAJ
