AskWoody PlusOn my first Win10 Pro 22H2 test machine I’m seeing the same behavior others have reported with KB5057589 2025-04 Security update for Win10 22H2. It fails the first time around, but on retry it’s happy.
The other two updates:
KB5055683 2025-04 CU for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8, 4.8.1
KB5055518 2025-04 CU for Win10 22H2Succeeded the first time around. See PKCano’s post above for more complete details on the behavior of the various bits and pieces.
The whole business seemed to take forever…. onto the next test machine(s)

AskWoody PlusThank you to the earlier posters giving results for their tests.
Anyone try deleting the new c:\inetpub folder?
And here we go – starting updates on a few Win10 Pro 22H2 test machines. I feel that the appropriate song to play now would be by Big Audio Dynamite – “The Bottom Line”, with the opening lyric – “The horses are on the track”

AskWoody PlusI have seen the new Outlook installed. It showed up as:

This was using Nirsoft’s WUHV to view the applied updates listed in MS’s local database.

AskWoody PlusDitto on KB5050411 – On the first three machines, I saw the same behavior of failure on the round where I tried to install all 4 updates together, then after the successful install of the other 3, a retry on KB508411 worked without issues. However, I’m not seeing the 5050411 update offered simultaneously nor subsequently on the next two test machines later in the day.

AskWoody PlusAnd the results for the remaining 5 Windows 10 Pro x64 test machines was KB5048652 installs without issues. Several basic tests on another production developer machine also show no issues so far. Therefore unleashed the KB5048652 update for the rest of the crew. No reports of issues so far.
One person reported an additional Microsoft supplied driver update for nVidia video display card to <!–StartFragment –>32.0.15.5612 reportedly from June of 2024 – no issues reported.

AskWoody PlusI accidentally forgot to pause updates on a near production Win 10 Pro x64 22H2 machine (a laptop). The machine updated with KB5048652 yesterday without issues. I have run my few critical production type tests and I have not seen any issues yet. Yay!
Based on this experience and what others have reported here, I will be updating my other test machines today, then my production machine last. I will report on the more complete results tomorrow.

AskWoody PlusThis behavior by Symantec is typical and been going on for years. They are effectively anti-competitive. Bought PC-Tools and orphaned it. Bought Wise installer, buried it. LifeLock – talk to people who have had to use it – basically no help and they give you a refund. I’m not a fan of Symantec now days although I used to be.

AskWoody PlusUpdated five Win 10 Pro 22H2 x64 “Guinea Pig”/”Canary” machines and as the final proof example, a production machine:
Desktops: Dell – 4)Precision T3500(2011), 1)Precision T3600(2012), 6)Precision 5820(2017).
Laptop/Tablets: 2)Dell XPS 13 9360(2017), 5)Dell XPS 15 9560(2017), 3) Microsoft Surface Pro(2014)With these 3 updates:

KB890830 Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 – v5.127 (KB890830) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890830And observed the usual premature restart notification triggered by the .NET Framework update
Also saw these additional updates in Nirsoft’s Windows Update History Viewer (WUHV):

AskWoody PlusJuly 9, 2024 at 10:17 pm in reply to: July updates out – still tracking Office updating issues #2686714I accidentally updated my penultimate Windows 10 Pro 22H2 test machine with the July updates first (forgot to pause updates after June updates test). Normally it is the fifth machine to get tested. The good news is that these July updates;
KB5040427 2024-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems
KB5041019 2024-07 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.8 and 4.8.1 for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64went smoothly and do not seem to have created any problems yet. I’ll update when I complete more testing.
Also note that Visual Studio 2022 has security updates.

AskWoody PlusSo far so good.
Windows 10 22H2 updates;
KB5037768, KB5038285 and MSRT KB890830 v5.124
all installed without issues on 6 machines (4 canary, 1 hybrid canary/production, and 1 production).
Also Office 2016/2019 C2R updated to 2404 Build 17531.20152 and so far no issues seen in production.
Thank you to the previous reporters of success and possible complications.

AskWoody PlusEmergency fix released yesterday…
Yes. Thanks. I knew that, but I was posting from a phone in a hurry, so I made it brief. The article on slashdot mentions that there is a hotfix.
It’s a bad error, but fortunately it is limited to specific circumstances/configurations that I don’t have.
