I use Ublock Origin as my adblocking. In setting under my filters, I have added the line –

I found it in one of the comments on an article but I do not remember which one.

    • in reply to: iTunes update just now Windows 10 #2431191

I found that one can still download I-Tunes from Apple instead of using the Microsoft store.

You go to the Apple I-Tunes site, it will tell you to get it from the Microsoft Store but if you scroll down on the page just past the Macbook, you will see Looking for other versions? macOS   Windows.  Click on Windows and you will receive a link for the latest version from Apple.

    • I am running Windows 10 Pro and have the store totally disabled (gpedit and services).

I also run iTunes which I found by doing a web search – got it directly from Apple.

I, too, have an issue now and then when attempting to connect to AskWoody when my VPN (PIA) is connected. I either switch locations or turn it off. The information that I gain from this site is more important to me than me attempting to remain anonymous.

    • in reply to: Susan recommending version 2004 #2336280

      Well, that was painful.

I did the upgrade to 2004 using the TRV method. About a hour and a half for the download and install. Another 4 to 6 hours removing the junk that Microsoft thinks my version of Windows needs, disabling the un-needed services, going back through Group Policy and Task Scheduler to make Windows, my Windows.

      Come on, Microsoft, it’s a computer, not a Xbox, a phone……

I use a combination of Eset Internet Security and Malwareware Bytes Pro. I have never had any issues with either in Windows 7 or now Windows 10. I like Eset due to that I can select the firewall as interactive.

ChrEdge has been updated to 86.0.622.58 as of today.

    • I ran the test on my windows 10 Pro version 1809 using Firefox version 68.4.1 ESR and got the “You Are Vulnerable”. Malwarebytes Premium blocked the test so I had to add an exception. Installed the update for the fix. I will soon do the update to 1903, just not crazy about MS’s bi-annual feature updates.

A very Merry Belated Christmas wishes to Woody and all of his helpers. This site is truly amazing in the help and information that can be had here. Thanks to all very much.

    • I have done the updates as advised by Woody and crew on a Windows 7 Pro running ESet and Malwarebytes Pro. No adverse effects that I am aware.

I have been using PIA for a number of years. The interface has vastly improved with the most recent version. It is cost effective if one goes for a long(est) term. You can use up to 10 devices at once. I do realize it is based in the US but they do not keep any logs and that has been proven in court. They also have clients for Windows, MacOS, IOS, Android, and Linux. There have been reports that their customer service can be spotty. Myself, on the times that I have had to contact them, I have had a response within 24hrs.

    • If someone wants to download a Windows 10 iso without using MCT, this link  – https://www.thewindowsclub.com/download-windows-10-iso-without-using-media-creation-tool – will give you some options. The main article is about using Microsoft Edge but in the comments section, there are tips about using Firefox, Chrome and Rufus. I have used the Firefox option under Windows 7 without any issues.

If you like Firefox, try Waterfox. Built on the same platform without some of the junk Mozilla adds in. You can also use the same add-ons that you use in Firefox, come from the same familiar site.
