AskWoody LoungerI have been having a similar problem with sp1 installing to a certain point and then Error code: 0x8007000D
I thought it might be because I tried to ‘hurry’ the updates my clicking on Windows Update and updating as fast as possible. I am now on my second re-install attempt and am letting Microsoft Automatic Update handle the chore…except I check my shutdown button frequently to see if an update is waiting to install on shutdown. If so, I shutdown. The process has yet to get to sp1.I have a Dell Inspiron 640m laptop with all the original disks.
I have upgraded the processor to a T7200, the ram to 4 gb (even though the mb specs say it can only take 2gb, it seems to work), and the hard drive to a faster, larger one with a bigger cache. Could these changes cause the error code?I had the error code problem on the first re-install attempt and tried the MS Fix It utility using the tool to fix Update. I also ran the ‘Get Vista ready for sp1’ tool on the Microsoft site and then the manual install of sp1. Still got the error code and no install.

AskWoody LoungerThe first (and only) wireless printer I ever tried to set up (for a friend) was an HP Officejet (can’t remember the model number) and, as near as I could tell, it did not support encrypted wireless. So we set it up the old fashioned way by wifi through another computer. I there a way to do this that I did not get?? Do the newer models handle an ecrypted connection?

AskWoody LoungerThanks, Bruce. I should have mentioned I am using Win XP sp3 but I was hoping this was a problem for all versions of Windows. Your solution does not work for me. I still get a Normal Window instead of a maximized window. I realize it is only one more click to maximize, I just hoped there was a way to set all Favorites links to open maximized.

AskWoody LoungerI have one question about the Start Menu. How can you make all Favorites entries open in a maximized window?

AskWoody LoungerTy, Jerry. Now that could be usefull. I kinda thot that’s what it did, but it seemed too good to be true.

AskWoody LoungerYes, I can see that, but the Product Key? Wouldn’t this render the copy of windows invalid?

AskWoody LoungerAs for not seeing any wireless networks, only the Vostro so far has had network control hijacked. The others could see networks but no encrypted ones that they could connect to. That’s when I checked the router and found encrytion turned off. The Win 7 is working fine. I was unable to successfully install NM on it, so it wasn’t poisoned. I have so far re-installed Vista on one of the kids machines but had to go home before it was finished. The other XP machine can see networks and is using a free unencrypted connection. Havn’t had time to look at it to see if it is a default ssid of their router or a neighbour’s connection.

AskWoody LoungerNo, the router was not reset. Admin page still loaded with the user name and password I had installed previously. When I went to the Wireless section, the Security section said Disabled. When I changed it to Enabled, all the encrytion settings and code were still there. But, again, I would swear that no one there had either the motive or the knowledge to disable it. When I told them what had happened, everyone was mistified so I doubt if it was a friend who did it (besides, everyone had fogotten where I had recorded the User and Password).
I did try Revo, thinking that if I just put the name in the search bar, it would hunt down traces of it, but I never thought of re-installing and THEN sicing Revo on it. I also found some advice on how to hunt down the dregs manually which was going to be my next move. Thanks for the hint.
