    • Thanks for posting about this as I was becoming convinced my memory/visual imagination were playing tricks with me. I also have the same issue but without seeing or going any where near the “Year in Review” thing. So I am assuming that a recent update to Edge has caused this. I am on version 131.0.2903.112.

May be worth having a look at MailStore. MailStore Home is free. It can archive e-mail accounts from Microsoft 365, Outlook, mailboxes via POP3 or IMAP and from e-mail clients such as Thunderbird and Windows Mail. MailStore – The Standard in Email Archiving

When the Safety Scanner runs, it marks files it thinks may be infected then those files are compared to the malware database. If they are found to not contain malware then the scanner will indicate no problems were found. It is only if it finds malware in those files will it report at the end of the process and of any removal.

    • Between 1999 and 2015, the Post Office took many cases to court, prosecuting 700 people. More than 900 sub-postmasters were wrongly prosecuted for stealing due to incorrect information from Horizon. Another 283 cases were brought by other bodies, including the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Many sub-postmasters went to prison for false accounting and theft, and several were financially ruined. Why all this hasn’t been resolved after all this time is a national disgrace here in the UK.

In 2017, a group of 555 sub-postmasters took legal action against the Post Office. In 2019, it agreed to pay them UK£58 million in compensation, but much of the money went on legal fees. The Post Office spent UK£100 million fighting the group in court despite knowing its defence was untrue. The Post Office is owned by the UK Government (through the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) so this was our tax payer’s money! And it goes on…..

The Metropolitan Police based in London, is also investigating the Post Office over potential fraud offences.

    • in reply to: Canva Acquires Design Platform Affinity #2654114

I received another e-mail from Serif/Affinity this morning. They appear to be on the reassurance foot. In the e-mail they state:

“We share a commitment to making design fairer and more accessible. For Canva, this has meant making our core product available for free to millions of people across the globe, and for Affinity, this has meant a fairly priced perpetual license model. We know this model has been a key part of the Affinity offering and we are committed to continue to offer perpetual licenses in the future.

If we do offer a subscription, it will only ever be as an option alongside the perpetual model, for those who prefer it. This fits with enabling Canva users to start adopting Affinity. It could also allow us to offer Affinity users a way to scale their workflows using Canva as a platform to share and collaborate on their Affinity assets, if they choose to.”

    • in reply to: Outlook.com Issues? #2641064

Not sure if this will be of any help, but my outlook.com e-mails suddenly stopped coming through to Outlook (MS Office 2021 Pro) on 30 January 2024. I use outlook.com as a secondary/emergency POP e-mail address. On checking Microsoft’s outlook.com server settings, I noticed that they had changed the outgoing server from smtp.office365.com (which had been working for years) to smtp-mail.outlook.com  As soon as I changed the outgoing setting to this, outlook.com has been working fine for me. What is the program you are trying to run on Windows 10?

    • in reply to: Copilot coming to Windows 10 #2603443

This is a strange announcement as I received Copilot on Edge at least 10-14 days ago on a W10 Pro 22H2 PC, and well before the November updates were released. It sits quietly in the top right hand corner where Bing used to be. I am in Scotland so I don’t know if that made a difference with roll-out dates.

    • in reply to: Pls Recom Free Password Manager #2601324

For a free password manager, probably your best bet is Bitwarden The password manager trusted by millions | Bitwarden

Even the premium version is quite a bit cheaper than other paid-for password managers: Bitwarden Password Manager Pricing | Bitwarden

I would recommend exporting your Lastpass vault to a CSV file for safe keeping before you change your password manager:  How do I export stored data from LastPass as a generic CSV file? – LastPass Support but data can be imported directly from LastPass to Bitwarden or by using your exported CSV file from LastPass: Import Data from LastPass | Bitwarden Help Center

      Hope this helps.

    • in reply to: MacAfee anti virus left overs #2587990

I had a similar problem with a MacAfee trial when I bought a new Windows 7 PC many years ago. In frustration, I decided to ‘nuke’ MacAfee to get rid of it following what I thought, had been an uninstallation. I had Revo Uninstaller on my PC at the time (free version), so used the ‘Forced Uninstall’ function on that, typed in the program’s exact name (i.e. MacAfee), let it do a registry backup and create a system restore point, and ticked what was highlighted in bold type for removal (after doing a double check of the scan results first).

Once that was done, I used the Everything search program to check for any leftovers via its search box using the word ‘MacAfee’ and deleted anything appropriate. Then a final manual check on C drive for anything MacAfee in Program Files, Program Data and in Users/your name/Appdata and its subfolders. Then did a restart of the PC. It was a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but it did the trick at the time.

    • in reply to: Office Outlook 2007 #2587295

Correct Kathy. Microsoft announced that some versions of Office will not be supported in Windows 11. These versions include any versions of Office released on or before 2013, for example, Office 2010 and Office 2007. However, unsupported doesn’t necessarily mean that these versions of Office will not work. What it does mean is that Microsoft doesn’t recommend it and they won’t support you if you try to install a 17 year old version of Office on a Windows 11 enrolled device, and you will most likely be making yourself vulnerable to security risks. There is always a gap between the official line from Microsoft and what works in the real world.

Outlook is the main concern. There have been a lot of changes in e-mail security/login over the last decade or so. Some e-mail services won’t work nicely with Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010, possibly also Outlook 2013.

    • in reply to: What Backup Program Do you Recommend #2583007

I have used both AOMEI Backupper (Pro version) and O&O DiskImage (no free version) and have not experienced any issues over many years of use on Windows 7 and then Windows 10 Pro.
