    • in reply to: Which Intel RST driver to use? #1394889

Well dug around and it appears that the version 12 RST’s are not for X58 boards anymore

Plus it seems the newer 12.6.0.1033 was pulled back because of issues

Will do this, much cleaner. Have not gotten to it, fixing my window regulator to my truck, but the weekend is near. Thanks again everyone

    • in reply to: Microsoft updates again? #1393528

      Okay, will do.

    • in reply to: Microsoft updates again? #1393514

They are all 64-bit. All have the same updates.

Wife just told me she installed a new game just recently. Probably the cause, but I am at a loss that installing a new game would ‘push’ for the same updates to install again. Thank you for your response.

@rayt435 – great point. I just got back from South America and did just that before I went.

I also had an experience flying on the Boeing Dreamliner. First off there 3 version from the airlines I took. Not all Dreamliners have 3-prong outlets. So find out, version 2 which I flew on pretty much everyone had 3-prong outlets in their seats along with USB ports that charge phones. Be advised though, the 3-prong outlets only have enough power to power a small laptop. Pretty much anything over 15″ with large power supplies will not recharge because it draws too much power. The flight attendant and I went to several outlets to test and sure enough it would not recharge my laptop. But once on the ground (and up to today) it charges just fine.

Have a good time in Europe Susan and thanks for your columns!

      Thank you Bruce

    • I was wondering, should we uninstall the first patch dated 12-10-2012 and then install this new one? Or should we just install this on top of the old one?

    • This could be any number of reasons. You can PM me and we can start there.

Send me your hard drive specs first; maker and model number. I’ll watch for you in my inbox

    • in reply to: XP doesn’t shut down anymore #1357627

Okay, it appears the shutdown was affected by some client dump under the “Services” tab. I cannot remember the exact name but something to do with purging. However, now that I have unchecked it, it is no longer listed. Even if I take the check off from “Hide all Microsoft Services”. So not sure what it was and not sure where it went. But booting up now on the 8th time and no hangs.

      Thank you very much J

    • in reply to: XP doesn’t shut down anymore #1357616

Okay that did it. I can shut down and/or restart without the hang. What next, check each item one by one till I get a hang?

    • in reply to: XP doesn’t shut down anymore #1357592

Okay, I tried method 1 here. It says that it cannot download the rest from Microsoft so I went on the step 2. I did steps 1-2 and I restarted and it froze again.

I’ll move on to the other steps to see what happens or is there something else you might know?

    • in reply to: Rescue CDs will not run! #1357557

This is a shot in the dark, but I have been experiencing the exact same thing. I did the same thing, rescue CD’s, memtests, Windows 7 install disk to do a repair. In my situation it ended up being low voltage to my CPU. I manually set the CPU voltage to 1.1v and my system boots every time. I can set it to 1.0 and still fine, but the moment I set the setting to auto it does exactly what you describe. Why? When I tore apart my system (P7P55D Deluxe) I noticed a waxy thick liquid coming from under one of the heat sinks around the CPU. Manufacturer supported that it may be a voltage regulator gone bad; hence then the low voltage instead of adding voltage when needed.

Again, this is a shot in the dark but what you describe going on with your system appears exactly the same as what I was going through. This may not be the answer, but an option. Just a suggestion to look at and test.

    • Well, after reading that Wiki I am more calmer now than I have been these past months.

The “Cloud” is not a good thing. I talk from a “data” stand point. E-mail is not just an e-mail, but it is data. Data in the wrong hands can be disastrous to our lives.

So I am glad that Mozilla is not ditching Thunderbird, it looks like more “cleaning” is going on.

Thanks lodavesf for the link, great reading and a better understanding of what is going on in the business of Mozilla.

    • in reply to: Windows Update on 6-11-2012 #1336630

Does not look like something the average home user with a simple network needs. I do not use a proxy nor does any of my anti-virus software’s or firewall.

      Thanks for the quick reply

    • in reply to: KB2679255 may cause issues #1331894

Finally getting back to this. I did contact Avira and it is all over their forums. I wanted to make sure that if people had Avira (or another A/V doing the same thing) just to be aware. And uninstalling the KB2679255 patch was okay to do since reading the Microsoft website; it is classified as “Recommended” so it is not a critical security issue and listed here it was put on the back burner for a while so another reason doing this was okay.

Avira released an update yesterday and I installed KB2679255, now those entries are marked as “The registry entry is invisible”. So just letting people be aware, your hidden objects will be increased, but it will not show up as a virus in Avira’s case. Other A/V having the same issue? Not sure, but case closed for Avira/Microsoft
