Your users are freaked out because the server is displaying basic server information? That seems usual… anyway bginfo is usually launched from a shortcut in the all users windows startup folder so you should find it there.

I am 🙂  They did not, unfortunately . To be clear one actually did but it required everyone who rdp’d into a server to have server admin rights to run correctly and that was a non-starter in some situations.

I’ll check out the technet forum.

I also utilize a custom BGinfo template on all of our servers after discovering it a few years ago.

The one thing I haven’t been able to get it to do would be to display ALL currently logged in users. This would help in some situations where a certain group has more than one person accessing a server attempting to “fix” something…

Didn’t even notice it went down. Appears to be up now…

edit: I do see references on twitter to it being down but it looks like it came back up just before I checked my own calendar.

I’ve seen that same email come into our organization. Since we don’t utilize fileshare sites we just started blocking the major ones at the firewall and have made part of regular securiting training to remind people that we don’t accept document sent to us this way.

When we left logmein years ago due to pricing increases we went to Splashtop. Been very  happy with the service. We use it mostly for users to handle their remote access needs, but we also used the SOS add on when necessary which allows remote support to anyone. (User goes to website downloads etc with code, we enter code on our side of app, remote connection, teamviewer-like).

Check their pricing, talk to their support to see if it fits your needs.
