      Yes.

XP picked up the one user I had already set up just fine. It also “remembered” the settings for the AllUsersProfile. I thought the re-installation would wipe the slate clean. I’m glad for that!

I set up the other two users and logged them in. Once they had logged in, I could copy (not taking any chances) the contents of the appropriate W2K profiles to the new Documents and Settings directory. I think I just screwed something up badly.

RE: you might have missed the installer

Guess so. Even though I purchased the upgrade directly from MSFT, since the Money 2002 Standard came with my Dell, I’ve had to go to Dell …. keep you fingers crossed cauldron

Okay … I gave up and re-installed XP … Solved the problem.

I meant “Restricted” or “Admin.” Not on a domain network.

“Moved” (really redirected) AllUsersProfile by setting the HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList “ProfilesDirectory” to the “Documents and Settings” directory on the other partition.

My “grand” problem and overall objective are

      • Problem: My W2K system crashed. I can retrieve all the “D & S” directories/files since they are in an accessible partition. I have installed XP Pro in a different partition and created a new “D & S” directory in a 3rd partition, which contains the new AllUsersProfile directory.
      • Objective: Create the same user accounts under XP. Transfer the contents of their W2K profile directories to the new “D & S” directory. Since I cannot get W2K to boot – “inaccessible boot device” & a rebuild of the boot.ini file didn’t help – I cannot use the Files and Settings transfer wizard to move the profile information.
        [/list]Thanks for your help,

      Dave,

Doesn’t seem to matter – Limited or Power.

      Thanks,

Opps … setting it to “0” solved the problem.

I found this in KB article (Q292504).

Okay after some searching, I discovered the problem. Somehow, some way, someone blush had turned off the NoCommonGroups entry in the
      HKEY_USERSS-1-5-21-220523388-1645522239-1801674531-500SoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer
registry entry… Dunno who but setting it to “1” fixed the problem.

Thanks. Humm … but that user doesn’t exist anymore …

While I would like to access this in the CP, one can create a shortcut to it and place it in the Administrative Tools startup folder.

      Dave,

No – my request doesn’t concern the Welcome screen. I just prefer the Command-Run: control userpasswords2 dialog style of user account management.

I copied the directories (All Users and one user so far) to the new partition and used RegCrawler and RegEditX to change the registry entries for the AllUserProfile and for each user to point to the correct locations. The Start Menu expansion for the user works just fine. It’s the Start Menu for the Admin that I’m having trouble with.

      Thanks,

Okay, I moved the profile directories except for the Administrator account. Somehow, in the Start menu for the Administrator, the entries in the All Users Start menu aren’t showing up. Any idea(s) why?

      Ok, one last crossfingers question:

How about the Program File directories for IE, Netmeeting, xerox, and all that other “stuff” XP so thoughtfully installs on the PF directory?

RE: always put Program Files in a separate partition

Do mean the *entire* Program Files folder, i.e., including the Common Files subdirectory? If yes, do you edit the registry so that the OS will look in the Program FIles partition?

      Thanks,
