    • Thank you for your response.  I’ve done all the steps given on various websites using  services.msc, gpedit.msc, and regedit.exe.  The services.msc settings did automatically change back to “Running” from “Disabled” and “Stopped”.  I had also previously deleted the Windows Software Distribution Download folder, but as of now it’s repopulated.

Is there any way to stop the above from happening?  And how do I remove the “Restart Required” notice in the Windows Update settings?  If I delete the files in the Software Distribution Downloads folder, will that remove the “Restart Required” notice?  At some point I’ll need to restart the computer.

And if I do restart the computer and the CU installs, will it install version 24h2 again?  I seem to recall it did install 24h2 previously, which again prevented my scanner from working.  My scanner drivers are up to date.  I tried everything I could think of to get the scanner working again without success.  And it’s apparently a known problem with 24h2.

    • I just received a pop message that my computer needs to restart.  When I check Windows Update in Settings, it says “Restart Required” and below it “2025-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5053602)”.

From past experience this means that when I restart the computer it will automatically start downloading and installing the above.

Is there any way to avoid this?  I need to restart periodically to install some updates on other programs.

    • Thank you.  It works!  I check Windows Update and it says I’m up to date.

Another quick question; I did this manually, not with anything in the zip file.  Is there anything in the zip file that does more or is that everything?  Will it stay this way unless I click the check for updates button?

And, I assume this will prevent Windows Defender from updating also.  If I were to get Norton 360, would that protect my computer as well as Windows Defender, in your opinion?

      Thanks again.

    • In the description of how to manually remove the update pause it doesn’t give the values to change the registry settings to. Here’s a copy of where it doesn’t give the values: ” …and change the values of PausedFeatureStatus and PausedQualityStatus to” .
What should I change the values to ?

Also, where it says “I’ve included a batch file (.bat), Powershell script (.ps1) and registry file (.reg) in the attached zip file to automate this process (note, they need to be run from an account that has Administrator access.) “, I don’t see those items in the post. Are they no longer available?

I’m using Windows 11 Home, version 23H2. I’m paused until April 22, before Windows update will download and install version 24H2. I did that once before and it prevented my scanner from working, so I restored my computer back to 23H2 using an Acronis True Image backup.

I’m new to this website, so I hope I did this question correctly.
      Thank you.
