Have you used Tabula to convert PDF documents to Excel?

Yes, often. Unfortunately though, that’s where the “handraulic” comment comes into play. Tabula runs locally via a browser. It can try to autodetect the tables and you can also manually select the tables you want. It has a couple of different parsing techniques you can play with – if one doesn’t work the other may. It will show it’s results on the web page in a table that you can easily copy/paste into excel.

It’s a little bit old now and a bit handraulic so it might not suit your workflow but I often use Tabula (https://tabula.technology/). If you do try it, it would be interesting to head what yo think about it.

If I’m understanding you correctly, Settings > More tools > Customise toolbar.
Then you can add/remove/reorder items; make sure to click ‘Done’ down the bottom right when finished. From memory, I removed the ‘flexible space’ but a little experimentation will give you what you want.

    • in reply to: Sum hours in Excel (Office 365) #2718439

To get the hours in a format greater than 24, format the ‘sum()’ cell as [h]:mm, if you want the seconds use [h]:mm:ss. To get that as a decimal, if the sum() is in B1, you can use convert(B1,”day”,”hr”). If you don’t want the separate sum() showing just use convert(sum(<range>),”day”,”hr”).

A slight simplification on @N Banks’ answer: instead of min(B1,C1,B2,C2), as these are in a continguous block you could use min(B1:C2).

    • in reply to: a mystery device connection showing in router #2708202

Ok but I still wish to know how it got cachens3.mcleodusa.net, where DOES that come from?

What is DNS set to in your router?

    • in reply to: a mystery device connection showing in router #2708185

https://www.perplexity.ai/search/what-is-or-uses-cachens3-mcleo-ThcY9rIJQGWNXGAd8HawZQ says The hostname cachens3.mcleodusa.net is associated with a DNS server operated by Windstream Communications LLC

Maybe look at your DNS settings in your router?
EDIT: you could try setting your DNS to 1.1.1.1 (cloudflare), 8.8.8.8 (google) or 9.9.9.9 (quad9) temporarily and see if that makes any difference.

    • in reply to: a mystery device connection showing in router #2708184

https://maclookup.app/search/result?mac=2a:b2:95:6e:1f:f2 shows the address isn’t assigned to any manufacturer and suggests it could be a randomized MAC.

As an example, many phones these days publish a randomized MAC address so maybe look for devices on your network that have that capability.

I’m sure you’ve already made a list of all your devices and compared it to what your router is saying.

    • in reply to: Help Using COUNTIF #2701933

Just put the cell reference instead of the text. For example, B3 should be =COUNTIF(‘2022’!M:M,A3)

    • Casey,

I think there is more than one option for the phone – I use Keepass2Android.

As far as a tutorial goes, have a look at post 2648240 above and see if that helps.

    • Authy is pretty good when upgrading devices – provided you’ve got more than one device with it loaded. On the new device you input your credentials and use one of the other devices (or your old one if you’ve still got it) to confirm/authenticate the new device and that’s all there is to it. I’ve done the successfully many times.

    • Authy has announced the Authy Desktop app will reach End-of-Life on March 19, 2024.

I use Authy and have it installed on both my spouse and my phones and tablets. Simply sign into the same account on all devices – they are automatically synced. This obviously means that you both have access to all sign-ins. The advantage of this is that we have four live copies for 2FA. Adding a new device is also simple via Authy.

I’ve also played around with BitWarden and other password managers for many years and did so again after Brian’s recent column. I’ve been using KeePass for all that time and am sticking with it as I don’t like the idea of an external company having access to my data. Our (spouse & me) set up is as follows:

      • We use a key file for extra security.
      • We keep the KeePass databases synced through KeePass’s built in sync function.
      • The KeePass database is kept in our respective Google Drive folders where it syncs to our phones/tablets
      • We manually loaded the key file to our phones/tablets (one off action). The key file is not on google drive or any other cloud site.
      • We use the KeePass2Android app on our phones/tablets

It might look like a bit of mucking around but it means that while the KeePass database is in the cloud (google drive) it is encrypted by KeePass and can’t be accessed without both the database password and the key file.

    • Don’t know if it’s exactly the same but I had something similar on a single user pc. I ended up fixing it by booting in safe mode and using system restore to roll back before the File Explore Patch install. I was then able to log in without issue and re-install File Explore Patch without any problems. No idea why but it worked.

    • in reply to: Using wildcards in search and replace #2562503

      Try ISBN [0-9]{4}-[0-9]{4}

The {} syntax is repeat the previous {Min,Max} times, so {4} says exactly four. Not relevant to your specific query but you can also leave one of them blank, so (4,} is a minimum of four times and {,4} is up to four times.

BTW, I’m sure it’s a typo but in one instance in your original post you’ve used ISSN and in the search you’ve used ISBN. Naturally these should be the same.

    • in reply to: One contact is not auto populating in Outlook email #2558136

Also, how can I delete old emails that are not contacts, just in the list of prior emails. E.g. I have a friend who changed her email, but I can’t seem to delete the history that keeps pulling her old one, I don’t see how to do that. thank you! Donna

If I’m understanding you correctly, if you start typing the name, when the old address appears in the autocomplete drop down you can arrow down to it and then press the delete key.
