Thanks, Bob99.  I misread the description on the KB. I do know what the Malicious Software Tool is.

I noticed that a couple of April Updates were showing as available already.

KB4023057 2022-04 showed up for April already, as did the April edition of the Malicious Software Removal Tool, KB4052623.

I already updated for March last weekend. These were new; I hid them both in WuShowHide.

    • FYI, the problem fixed after another update to the “Your Phone” app for me, so I’m pretty confident that in my case, a buggy interim update was the culprit.

I had the same problem with a bulging battery on my HP Omen, so its not just the Surface that has this problem. It bulged to the point that it damaged the keyboard from pressure underneath; I’m in the process of replacing the battery and keyboard now.

    • The same problem is occurring with both devices; they are both phones that connect to the PC via the USB. I thought it would be useful to indicate that the problem is not unique to android phones.

    • It’s not an “iPhone” app. It’s the “Your Phone” app, which is a standard part of Windows 10, and is supposed to be for Android, and which I do not even use, but it runs in the background regardless, and gets updated from the Store, like every other app whether I use it or not.

    • I started getting this same error with my iPhone after updating the Phone app (which I don’t even use, but it runs in the background) from the Microsoft Store (could be coincidental).

I never saw the message before. Now it pops up at random, always two message boxes at a time, even if the iPhone has not been plugged in for days. I’ve done some Google searches, and I’ve see some other recent mentions of this problem elsewhere, but no solution.

It first appeared shortly after an update to the Phone app, and the iPhone was not plugged into the USB, and had not been plugged into the USB for weeks.

The physical drive is slightly larger, but a portion of it is partitioned as a Recovery drive, which leaves just 28GB for the C: drive. She does not use the machine for a lot. Email, signing on to her banking, some video viewing online. She wants it to be more responsive and not constantly throw low storage errors. I have not done a full evaluation yet. We had planned to look at it earlier in the week, but she canceled again and again, and I finally got to look at it Friday evening before I was leaving to travel out of state. Consequently, I was hesitant to make too many changes. I expect to be looking at it again later this week.

No touchpad buttons on her machine. I hate that. One of the reasons I went with my current machine, an HP Omen laptop, is that it had actual touchpad buttons.

I’ll evaluate all options for her. The C: drive is an SSD, which was a surprise to me, since the response was so slow.

This is an old retired lady on a fixed income. Not everyone has the privilege of being able to afford to buy something new. I have suggested that to her as a possibility, but good for you that you can see that as an easy thing to do. Not everyone can.

I’ll check it out, but i have doubts that partitioning changes will help. The C: drive was 28gb, and there was a small recovery partition.

I’m out of state now. I’ll be back to look at it again next week to get more detailed info.

What you are saying sounds similar to what she has. When she said she had low storage problems, I thought it would be a simple matter of cleanup of logs, tmp, dumps etc. And some of that is true. I was shocked mostly by the fact that she had deleted documents, pictures etc, and still had so little free. Apart from a couple of things that I cleaned up, I told her I’d look at it again next week, when I am back in town.

Thanks, I use similar batch files myself.
