AskWoody PlusApril 30, 2019 at 9:04 am in reply to: Woody’s Windows Watch: More on April’s abysmal Win7 and 8.1 patches #1133017I’ve been using Panda on my Win8.1 machine for nearly 3 years, and am very happy with it. Never a problem. It seems to be unaffected by the April patches, so I will wait probably no more than one more week and then install the security-only April update. Meanwhile, been having fun running and learning my new Mint 19.1 on the old (wiped) Win7 machine. It has no AV program ;^)

AskWoody PlusAll of the above just more reasons why my Win 7 MSI laptop is soon to become a Linux Mint 19.1 machine. My Acer Aspire Win8.1 will continue to do the heavy lifting.

AskWoody PlusHow do they not think this through? Seems so mindless, blindsighted.

AskWoody PlusFebruary 18, 2019 at 9:11 am in reply to: Tell me the truth – Which is better, Chrome or Firefox? #328693I use both DuckDuckGo and Startpage more recently. I believe I’m finding the results from Startpage to be a little better of the 2, i.e. more on target, relevant. On Firefox 80-90% of the time, though I like using Opera also.

AskWoody PlusJanuary 16, 2019 at 10:32 am in reply to: FAQ: AskWoody, Windows Secrets, Subscriptions and ongoing database clashes #312086Well, okay then. I have had a wordpress account with an account pic, but I signed up with them using a hotmail addy, I have never merged or authorized the actual gravatar site to use that anywhere though. I don’t think I want to do that. I joined AskWoody using my gmail. I do have a gmail avatar picture though so maybe it will show up. Guess we will see.

AskWoody PlusI just got an invite today and have joined. I don’t know how much I’ll end up using it, but one thing I really like is the ease with which you can upload photos, both from pc and my phone(with the free Google+ app). I’ve never had a facebook page or any other major social networking site, so it’s all new to me.

Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. |
