Thanks PKCano – is one method preferable over the other?

My registry is set to 21H2. Does InControl override settings or do I manually update to 22H2 when it is recommended?

I would advise to either manually adjust your registry OR use InControl. Not both.

I would tell InControl to [Release Control] when Susan gives the all clear for 22H2 features (= non-security updates).

P.S. Remember that InControl does NOT reject security updates, only feature updates.

P.S. 2 I may be wrong, but if I am, others will clobber me and you’ll know.

So do I need to reset my registry settings back to

      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
      “TargetReleaseVersion”=-
      “TargetReleaseVersionInfo”=-

My registry is currently set to 21H2.  Does InControl override whatever settings I have in my registry that I set using registry keys/group policy discussed on AskWoody or do I have keep updating my registry manually to 22H2 when it is recommended?

I love the clear and concise consumer recommendations:

      • Windows 11 22H2: Not recommended
      • Windows 11 21H2: If you have a Windows 11 PC, recommended
      • Windows 10 22H2: Not recommended
      • Windows 10 21H2: Recommended

There are so many current active versions of Win in play now that this helps tremendously.

So I have to create a brand new TargetReleaseVersion in order to get a String Value – since my current TargetReleaseVersion is set to hex?

    • Neither. It is a String Value. (“H” is neither decimal or Hex)

I am using Windows 10 Home I don’t see “String Value” as an option – only hex or decimal

    • Question on TargetReleaseVersion.  Should it be set to decimal or hexadecimal in the registry?

      “TargetReleaseVersion”=dword:00000001
      “ProductVersion”=”Windows 10”
      “TargetReleaseVersionInfo”=”22H2”

Last month you had MSDEFCON set at 3.  Is it safe to install Windows 10 home update for consumer before the September update comes out or are you not recommending either one?

    • Making the searches default to current folder only was available in prior versions of Windows, but even the prior registry hack does not work in Windows 10. Sorry I miss it too.

Side note: If you know the name of the file, you don’t have to search to find it or open it. Type the name of the file into the Start Menu search box (that says Type here to search). This will present you with its location and will let you open the file…..no need to open File Explorer to search.

      Thanks – that’s what I thought but I couldn’t remember.

      I don’t own a hotspot device

It’s not about dedicated hotspot devices, but using a PC as one instead.

      – but all of my devices go my PC and router.

If they connect to the router directly (even via wi-fi) then you don’t need mobile hotspot on.

If they don’t, then you do (but I’d still like to understand why).

I was looking at hotspot network signup which said “yes”.  I have my hotspot set to “off” … my bad.

Here’s where I’ve used it.  My laptop includes a cellular connection.  I’m away from wifi and want to share my cellular connection with my Sister who has an ipad that needs wifi.  I enable my cellular connection to be “shared” to the ipad.  If I would do so after the June updates, she would be able to surf while using my shared connection but I would not be able to share it out.

Interesting.  Would you be able access your laptop once your sister has stopped using your wi-fi?

Does Settings, Network & Internet, Mobile hotspot say On or Off?

On – I think that answered my question.  Thanks.  I will wait until the idiots at MS stop trying to improve their products only to break what already worked perfectly fine previously.
