Win10 (B week Patch Tuesday) Security updates is ONE Cumularive Update. There is no choosing which one you want to install. You either install the CU or not.

The rest (issued on C, D, and E week) are non-security recommended/install which is equivalent to unchecked optionals in Win7.

PKCano – I’m talking about the security updates and other updates that come out in future patches/update releases.  I thought I saw something that showed in Windows Update screen what updates would be made – similar to the optional Win10 1909 update.  You could decide which updates to install.

I had a few month old Win10 PC (home 1903) and bit the bullet and didn’t have any problems as well.

I do have a quick question though on 1909 – is it still true that 1909 Windows Updates will allow the user to select which updates they want to install (similar to Win 7) or am I stuck with all or nothing model and not knowing what will be installed?

    • I have Win10 Home 1903 – in step 4 (for 1904) the graphic shows “Optional updates available” – I have never seen a list of updates available at any time.

I am missing something or do I have a setting wrong?

You’re missing that Step 4 starts with, “If you’re running Windows 10 version 1903, sooner or later you’ll see a Windows Update notice (Start > Settings > Update & Security) like the one in the screenshot below.” I.E., after version 1909 becomes generally available in about 10 days.

      Thanks b –

I bought my Win10 1903 PC a few months and have yet to have any windows updates pop up as available in the Windows Update screen.  But whenever I “resume updates” there are always a couple of updates that install.  I just installed updates Friday when Woody set Defcon to 4 and had a handful of updates installed that were never showing up in the Windows Update screen as available.

    • Is the optional install of Windows individual updates (like Win7) coming out in 1909 or Spring 2020?

Thanks – that’s what I was wondering.  I guess we have to wait for MS to actually learn how to test their updates before releasing them to the masses.  Wonderful… I will wait for MS-DEFCON3

Microsoft is supposed to be keeping us informed of bugs in Win10 versions, and you’d think they’d be particularly on-the-spot about following up on bu

Regarding one of the comments from 3 known bugs issue:

“I installed the updated Sept 2019 Cumulative Update for Win10 x64 [1903] and it broke me printing to a network HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180NW… What happens in my case is the screen will flash, I hear the printer start, but then nothing. And then Windows closes any open windows. Almost like Windows Explorer restart. Job is not being held in the queue, printer is not offline (but HP software monitor says it is), this is a network printer I am testing on.”

I had a similar thing occurred for me during a previous Win10 1903 update.  I have a HP Officejet Pro 8610, but when Windows 10 was originally installed it installed “HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180NW” which worked just fine for originally, but stopped after an update.   My solution was to uninstall the incorrect printer driver and then reboot my PC and have it install a new printer driver – this time it installed HP Officejet Pro 8610 (printer/scanner) driver – now it works perfectly fine again.
