Deo,

After thinking a while, I also remembered that space may also be taken up by Restore Points.

To answer your first question about the Recycle Bin, go to Recycle Bin|Properties (see screenshot) and reduce the size available for the drive in question.Recycle-Bin-settings

As far as Restore Points, look in:
This PC|properties|System Protection

(See attached screenshot – note ONLY C: {System} drive has protection turned ON.)Restore-Point-settings

Deo,

I agree with RG; one problem could be that you’ve “deleted”your previous backups to a Recycle Bin (which takes up space, even if it doesn’t show), and your drive is getting overfull. I don’t have Recycle Bin turned on for the drive I use to store backup files.

P.S.: I really think this thread should have been posted under the forum “Backup – Macrium Reflect.”

PL1

Please note that SSDs come in 2 sizes – M.2 (like a stick of chewing gum) and a little larger (like a smaller external drive); also, there are 2 kinds of connection: SATA and NVMe. You need to establish BOTH the form factor of your drive and also the connection protocol.

Cloud,

Note that this is an “Image/Restore” strategy, rather than a straight “Clone” strategy. There are several reasons why this is the preferred strategy, which I will let Paul T explain, if so desired.

A side note: LABEL your disks (not just by letters) e.g., System, Data, etc, in case there is any confusion as to which to restore where.

Sorry I’m late to the party,

My question (related to RG’s posts above) is about upgrading the System Disk (SSD) to a larger new SSD. I am using EaseUS Todo v.9.2, but could go to newer versions if necessary.

?Using the image-and-restore method, can I restore the image to the new SSD in an external enclosure, then swap it in? ?Will the OS boot? Or, should I swap in the SSD then use the Emergency Boot Disk to restore the file to the new SSD in situ?

All opinions, suggestions etc. will be welcomed. Thanks to all in advance.

He means “Take your ‘first thing I made’ bootable USB, boot from it (by changing the boot order in your BIOS on restart), then use Windows File Explorer to locate the drive you saved your backup to.” Select the correct date of the desired backup and restore to whichever disk you choose. Remember, sometimes the letters of disks are changed during this process, so disks should be labeled, e.g., “System,””Data,””Backup,”etc.

• CopyTrans HEIC from copytrans.net is listed on MajorGeeks.com. Haven’t used it myself, and I don’t know if the free version allows batch transformation. Give it a try.

Tom,

We need to see a screenshot of your System Drive using Snip & Sketch. <span style=”color: #ff0000;”>Right click on This Computer|Manage|Disk Management. It should look like this:Screenshot-2024-10-30-103358

Unless it’s “Bluetooth Device,” you may need to select “View|Show Hidden Devices”, above.
