I know a lot of aerospace systems for sure use Fortran 66.  Fortran 77 is still used heavily; even today people write new code in it, some of which I have been victimized to update as needed.

    • Woody,

If you need test dummies like you did when you first introduced the lounge here, I am willing to be of assistance a second time!

    • Don’t be surprised if this comes packaged with some ogres that’ll impede W7 functionality.

I think technology has probably made flying actually more dangerous than it was 15 or 20 years ago, but possibly safer than the years prior.

In a world of driverless cars so dependent on software, it only requires one well-timed (say rush hour) release of a hack to cause hundreds, thousands, or millions of fatal accidents all at once.

They’ll be prying the steering wheel out of my cold, dead hands.

With Micro$oft’s recent behavior and patterns, I wouldn’t be surprised if, through 5-20 layers of veiling, they were somehow behind this LOL

    • The original Enterprise computer may have been incredibly large and had an archaic interface, but it had the following advantages over W10: (1) It wasn’t pushy and demanding; (2) It didn’t perform updates whenever it felt like it; (3) It could perform its duties efficiently; (4) it talked but had a priority on listening, not enjoying the sound of its own voice

It had the following major disadvantage: it was horribly unsecure and could easily be hacked, so in that regard it was on par with W10.

    • There is a reason.  Once a new set updates on W10 comes out, clicking “Check for Updates” sends the latest updates down the chute to your computer.  If you haven’t downloaded September’s yet, then checking for updates will get you both September and October’s.  Depending on M$’s mood.

    • in reply to: Terms announced for the “bought” version of Office 2019 #220853

Of course they want it to be expensive.  They’re hoping you’ll capitulate to their desire to use Office365… just like they’ve been pushing people to use OneDrive.  Why?  Then they can sell and monetize the data of people using Office365 and OneDrive.  It doesn’t take half of a brain cell to see how dangerous this is from a security standpoint.  Having data on someone else’s server is just a disaster waiting to happen.  No professional researcher I know would ever consider using such a thing.  They use a combination of very, very carefully monitored flash drives, CDs, and external hard drives (mostly the latter) because then they have access to their data anytime and on their own terms.

In my opinion, the people in charge (aka folks like Mr. Nadella) are sacrificing the long-term health of the company in order to increase their personal wealth.  Once the dumpster fire breaks out, people of his ilk will be nowhere to be found.

I wish I knew where they got 5779 from as conventional calculations put the call of Abraham almost 2000 years after that.  I should just Google it myself 🙂
