    • in reply to: Microsoft 365 vs. Office 2024 — which to buy? #2714648

I’m sure everything Peter says about Microsoft 365 vs Office 2024 is true.  My experience has me resisting subscription software whenever I can.  As a retired IT support person, I generally do not feel the need to be on the forefront of software features and am satisfied to be a solid individual user of MS Office products.  Subsequently I’ve had excellent luck with older copies of MS Office and currently use four office 2021 licenses on two desktops and two laptops.  All four licenses were purchased online for a total of $280.  You know – those “cheap” licenses one sees on Facebook ads – they are legitimate and work just fine.  I suppose if I felt the need to be on the forefront of software features I’d opt for Microsoft 365 – but for serving my more ordinary needs, the stand-alone licenses are working just fine.

    • Same issue here.  Win 11 Home, Reg Entry and GRC Incontrol both set for 22H2, but system remains on 21H2.   Reluctant to use the method that pushes to 23H2 noted above.  Any other ideas?  Have been using Susan’s advice to limit install of versions and patches for over a year.  Now cannot advance when I want to..

I’ve purchased 5 of those MS OFFICE 2021 Pro licenses this year. All went well, each simply asked for the “key” at initial startup and good to go. Been using since April 2022 with no issues. Paid between $25 and $50 for the licenses – from Facebook ads. If I get another PC I’ll do it again. I hate subscriptions.

    • I setup two PC from scratch in 2019, for both I bought a MS Office Pro 2016 on line for about $80. Got the install by download and a legitimate Lifetime Key. Several steps to activate with Microsoft, but activate they did. Both installs have been working just fine. I see them now for much less – around $35.

I remain leery of Office 365 or any software by subscription as my internet connections are sometimes spotty. I know, old school, but gives me peace of mind.

I see newer versions of MS Office Pro available as well, but can only speak first hand to my experience the 2016 Pro version.
