Frankly, I don’t know if this is a FireFox problem or something w/ my OS, Vista. I suspect the latter, but it’s driving me batty! When I DL a zip file my tabs bar goes nuts and I have to repeatedly hammer on my mouse left click to close the multiple windows that start opening, all “Untitled.” I think it’s dependent on the size of the file, but I must get up to 50 windows screaming across the tabs bar! Please, in step-by-step, plain English, how do I stop this behavior or explain it better?

Maybe Firefox is set to open ZIP files. It shouldn’t be, since Firefox can’t open a ZIP file in the browser. To review your download settings, check here:

      Tools > Options… > Applications tab

In the search box, type zip and see what comes up. I recommend the setting “Always Ask” which will give you the choice to Open or Save the file. Also search for arc (short for archive) and comp (short for compressed). Reset these settings as desired.

      Does that help?

      P.S. Welcome to the Lounge.

Thanks. Search for zip yielded “Compressed (zipped) Folder” and was set to “Save.” Reset to “Always Ask.” Search for arc showed nothing and comp was same as zip. I’ll give it another go, see what happens.

      And thanks for the welcome.

That did the trick. Muchas gracias.
