Microsoft just announced that it’s putting a hold on upgrading machines to Win10 version 1903 for “some devices with Intel Centrino 6205/6235 and Broa

AskWoody_MVPSeptember 15, 2019 at 8:36 am #1951988I’m trying to remember when the “Update now” button appears. I know about “Download and install now,” but “Update now” doesn’t sound familiar.
But I think “Note We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update using the Update now button or the Media Creation Tool until this issue has been resolved.” could use a “… if you’re using one of the affected cards.”

GuestSeptember 15, 2019 at 10:55 am #1952092Oh it’s just getting all E.G. Marshall Creepshow with the bugs in the Windows 10 KBs and more things crawling in and that QA/QC being on the end users. Now more time lost to fixing and MS is not going to get that many to really want to give up their older versions of Windows with that track record and updates breaking even more things. Windows 7 is going because of its EOL on consumer versions of 7 only in Jan 2020 while 8.1 is 2023.
If Windows 10 is actually MS’s flagship OS product then where are the resources that should be at hand for vetting these Updates more thoroughly. Intel’s, and Broadcom’s, wireless is on a whole lot of devices like laptops, more so than on other devices, and that’s millions of devices and really does MS even take the time research the most commonly used hardware that is on most of the PC/Laptop products that make use of Windows OSs.

But this incompatibility is only “on specific models of NEC devices”.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 15, 2019 at 11:30 am #1952110So that’s where it is – in the Media Creation tool.
I wonder what happens to people who have the conflicted WiFi card, but are at the “Download and install now” checkpoint.
I don’t think there are that many NEC PC users left. NEC did sell servers in Japan some 6 years ago.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 15, 2019 at 2:15 pm #1952161Intel Centrino 6205/6235 are found on a HUGE number of notebooks including my HP Zbook 17 Workstation.
M$ would appear to be off the rails…
Microsoft refers only to NEC PCs with Intel Centrino 6205/6235 and Broadcom 802.11ac Wi-Fi cards not to all PCs with this hardware.

GuestSeptember 15, 2019 at 6:38 pm #1952222I can no longer access my windows 10 shared public folders from the other computers on my network. When I double click on the windows 10 computer icon in file explorer/network, it brings up a”you do not have permission to access message”. This all started after the Windows 10 KB4515384 update. Prior to that everything seemed to work fine. I still have an internet connection so it didn’t affect that.

ManagerSeptember 15, 2019 at 6:41 pm #1952225I suggest you read through this Topic.
I would start with turning on SMB-1, although there are security risks.
Also, there is information about what services need to be turned on for networkinf=g.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 18, 2019 at 5:52 am #1955795Thank you PKCano for pointing me to the topic. I tried all of the suggestions and nothing worked. Do you have any other ideas I could try? The only thing I did not do is upgrade to Win 10 Pro. I’m still using the home version.
I use a small app called : Windows Share Manager which can “fix” share problems.
“Windows Share Manager is an application originally created for the Xtreamer Media Player & Streamer. It allows you to “fix” your network shares so the rights and users are properly setup so your player can access them properly. It also has the functionality to create and remove your shares.”
It seems that the app isn’t available anymore for download but I can upload to the cloud if you are interested.
