        shekeera:

In trying for self-ed, I read through several posts, and try what’s offered… but using your refenerce (Tools | Options | Preferences | E-mail Options | Advanced E-mail options: Check the box to show an envelope icon in the system tray ) I showed no such oiption… My Outlook is set to IMO… could this be the problem? I have noticed said icon with all new mail, but have no idea where to turn it on/off

        Regards,
        Chuck Billow

I am not sure where it is in 2000! You could try a detect & repair (go to help menu in Outlook and select detect & repair.)

What operating system are you running? With Outlook 2000 in CW mode, on Windows 2000, when I right-click the envelope I don’t get any options. Are you running any special programs that enhance your system tray or help you manage it?

In searching the web, I found a routine that lets you hide the envelope programmatically, but it don’t know if it’s permanent or a one-shot deal. Also, I don’t know whether it is reversible, and therefore could be used to restore your icon. See To clear the Outlook envelope icon from the Windows system tray at Slipstick.com.
